We hear your burden and we are joining with you in prayer for your marriage and for peace in your home. We know how painful it is when there is tension and anger between a husband and wife, especially when you feel misunderstood or blamed for something you do not believe is your fault.
We want to gently encourage you to examine your own heart before the Lord even in this frustration. Marriage is a sacred covenant before God between a man and a woman for life, and God calls husbands to a high and loving standard. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25. And again Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them Colossians 3:19. That love is not dependent on who is at fault. We are also reminded that love does not behave itself inappropriately, does not seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil 1 Corinthians 13:5. When we focus on proving we are right, we can miss the opportunity to pursue peace and understanding. We encourage you to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger James 1:19, and to remember that a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1.
Even if you feel this situation is not your fault, God calls us to be peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God Matthew 5:9, and to not let the sun go down on your wrath Ephesians 4:26. We encourage you to go to your wife in humility and honor, listening to her heart and seeking to understand why she is hurt, rather than defending your position. You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered 1 Peter 3:7. Ask the Lord to show you any part you can own, any word or attitude that may have added to the hurt, and to give you grace to ask forgiveness and to forgive freely.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus. We want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to bring every need to God in His name.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we lift up this brother and his wife to You in the name of Jesus Christ. Lord, You see the hurt and the anger in their home and You know the details of this disagreement. We ask You to soften both of their hearts, to remove bitterness and pride, and to fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help this husband to love his wife as Christ loves the church, with patience, gentleness, and selfless sacrifice. Give him wisdom to listen well, to speak with kindness, and to be a leader in reconciliation and forgiveness. Help his wife to also feel heard, comforted, and loved, and give her grace to forgive. Heal any wound between them and restore unity and tenderness in their marriage. Let them be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32. Draw them both closer to You and closer to each other, that their marriage would honor You. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our only hope and mediator, amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray for your wife daily, to bless her with your words and actions, and to pursue peace without keeping a record of wrongs. Seek the Lord together in prayer and in His Word, and if the tension continues, consider seeking counsel from a trusted pastor or godly married couple who can walk with you both. God is able to restore and strengthen your marriage as you both humble yourselves before Him.
