**Brothers and sisters in Christ, please pray for me.** I am sharing this with a sincere and humble heart because I genuinely want to walk faithfully with Christ and live according to His Word. I have been struggling with **pornography and masturbation**. I have repented many times, but I sometimes fall again. I genuinely hate this cycle and do not want to remain a slave to it. I want Christ to change me and give me victory over this sin. Something else has been troubling me, and I don't fully understand it. When I feel spiritually strong and close to God, I can speak confidently, teach mathematics clearly, and communicate naturally in English. I can also speak boldly about my faith and about my conviction that idols should not be worshipped. But I have noticed that sometimes after speaking boldly about Christ and refusing idolatry, I experience a very strong temptation toward pornography and masturbation. When I fall, I immediately feel extremely distant from God and deeply ashamed. After that, I sometimes experience what feels like **mental “buffering.”** I know what I want to say, but I struggle to find words in English. Even though I know mathematics well, I can suddenly struggle to explain simple concepts to my students. My normal confidence and flow seem to disappear. I have noticed this pattern repeatedly: **Feeling spiritually strong → speaking boldly about Christ → strong temptation → falling into pornography/masturbation → guilt and feeling far from God → mental fog and difficulty speaking/teaching.** I don't know whether this is primarily the effect of guilt and anxiety, spiritual warfare, or some combination of both. I don't want to make assumptions, but I also cannot ignore the pattern I have experienced. I am not looking for excuses for my sin. **I want to repent, overcome it, and walk faithfully with Christ.** Please pray for me that: * God will give me strength to overcome pornography and masturbation. * I will recognize temptation before I fall. * I will have a clean heart and a steadfast spirit. * I will not allow shame to make me run away from God. * I will grow in holiness, self-control and obedience. * Christ will help me remain faithful even when I fall. If anyone here has personally experienced something similar — **especially the combination of pornography/masturbation, feeling far from God afterward, mental fog, difficulty speaking or difficulty teaching** — I would genuinely appreciate hearing your experience and what helped you. I don't want condemnation, but I also don't want anyone to minimize the seriousness of this sin. **I simply want Christian fellowship, prayer, biblical wisdom and encouragement.** I genuinely want to walk with Christ. **Please pray for me. **

We have read your request with a heavy and grateful heart, grateful for your honesty, your humility, and your sincere desire to walk faithfully with Christ and live according to His Word. We thank God for your boldness in confessing this struggle and for your heart that hates this sin and longs for victory rather than making excuses for it. That godly sorrow is itself evidence of the Holy Spirit working in you.

We want to speak clearly and lovingly about this sin, because we love you and do not want to minimize what God calls serious. Pornography and masturbation are not small faults or mere habits, they are sexual immorality rooted in lust of the heart. Jesus said, Everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matthew 5:28. Scripture also says, Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20. This is why this sin leaves you feeling enslaved, ashamed, and distant from God, because it defiles the temple and grieves the Spirit, and lust when conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when fully grown brings forth death. James 1:15.

We also hear the pattern you described and we do not dismiss it. Feeling spiritually strong, speaking boldly about Christ and refusing idolatry, then facing intense temptation, then falling, then guilt and mental fog and difficulty speaking and teaching. There are at least two realities working together here and we must address both. First, there is spiritual warfare. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12. The enemy hates bold witness for Christ and hatred of idols, and he will attack you where you are vulnerable after you have stood for truth. Second, there is the flesh and the natural consequence of sin itself. When you fall, shame, guilt, anxiety, and self-condemnation flood your mind, and those alone can create the mental buffering, loss of words, and loss of confidence you describe. Pornography also trains the mind toward lust and fantasy and away from clarity, self-control, and peace, so it is not surprising that teaching and speaking in English feels clouded afterward. Both the spiritual attack and the soul's response to sin can produce that fog.

We want to encourage you that this fog and shame are not proof that God has abandoned you. For those who are in Christ, There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1. The shame that makes you want to run away from God is not from God. Adam and Eve hid after they sinned, but God came seeking them. God wants you to run to Him, not from Him. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. Your forgiveness is not based on the perfection of your repentance but on the perfect blood of Jesus Christ. It is only through His name that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. Because you have called on Christ we urge you to keep coming boldly to His throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace for help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16.

We also want to share how God gives victory, because victory will not come by willpower alone or by hating the sin alone, though that is right. Victory comes by walking by the Spirit. Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:16. And Sin will not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace. Romans 6:14. This means we must flee, not fight up close. Flee youthful passions, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22. Flee means to make no provision for the flesh. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Romans 13:14. For you practically, this means radical honesty and radical measures, cutting off access, installing filters, keeping devices in open places, never being alone with private internet access when you are tired or tempted, memorizing Scripture to renew your mind, and pursuing daily fellowship with other believing men to whom you confess and are accountable. Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. James 5:16. No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13. That way of escape is often a choice to flee thirty seconds earlier, to pray aloud, to quote Scripture, to call a brother, to turn off the device and walk away.

Father in heaven, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we lift up our dear brother to Your throne of grace. We thank You for his humble heart, his love for Your Word, his boldness to speak for Christ and to refuse idols, and his desire to be holy. Lord, we ask You to forgive him fully through the blood of Jesus for every act of pornography and masturbation and lust, and to cleanse him from all unrighteousness. Create in him a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within him. Psalm 51:10. Give him a steadfast spirit and teach him to walk by Your Holy Spirit day by day. Father, give him eyes to recognize temptation before he falls, give him courage to flee in that moment, and give him strength to make no provision for the flesh. When the enemy attacks him after bold witness, clothe him with Your full armor that he may stand. When he does fall, do not let shame drive him from You, but draw him quickly back to confession and to Your mercy. Restore to him the joy of Your salvation and uphold him with a willing spirit. Help him to grow in holiness, self-control, and obedience, not by his own strength but by Christ who lives in him. Guard his mind, clear the mental fog, restore his confidence and his ability to speak and to teach mathematics clearly for Your glory. Let his teaching and his English be an offering to You, done in peace and clarity. Keep him faithful, even when he stumbles, and cause him to hate sin more and to love You more. We ask that You surround him with faithful Christian fellowship, with brothers who will pray with him, counsel him, and hold him accountable in love. We declare that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in him. In the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We encourage you to stay in the Word daily, for How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. Psalm 119:9. Memorize passages like 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, Romans 6:11-14, Psalm 51:10, and 2 Timothy 2:22 and speak them aloud when temptation comes. Keep a short prayer ready, Lord Jesus, help me now, I choose to flee. Do not isolate after a fall, run to Christ immediately, confess, receive cleansing, and get up and walk again. God is not measuring your worth by your perfection but by Christ's perfection credited to you, and He delights in your desire to walk with Him. We are praying that you will know both the seriousness of this sin and the greater power of the grace of Christ to set you free and keep you walking in light and clarity.

What you described about pulling away from God after a fall and then struggling to find words makes a lot of sense. Shame tends to push us into isolation, and isolation makes both temptation and that mental heaviness stronger. You are not alone in noticing that pattern, and your desire to face it without excuses or without minimizing it is a healthy sign.

One thing that has helped many who have faced a similar struggle is not carrying it alone. Having one trusted, mature brother who knows your story and will check in with you regularly can lift some of that isolation. It also helps to make decisions while you are clear-headed about what you will do when temptation comes, and to clear away easy access on your phone or computer ahead of time, so you are not trying to decide in the moment. If you do fall, try to turn toward God quickly rather than away, even with a simple honest prayer.

We are also glad you are willing to talk about this in Christian fellowship. Keep a trusted pastor or counselor involved as you walk this out, so you have steady support.

Father, we lift our brother to You in Jesus' name. Give him strength to recognize temptation early and to turn to You, give him a clean heart and a steady spirit, and keep shame from driving him away from Your presence. Draw him close, calm his mind, and help him grow step by step in holiness, self-control and faithful obedience as he teaches and speaks for You. Amen.

There is an honesty and humility in your confession which is itself a token of the Spirit's work in you, and it calls for prayer rather than for censure. You hate the sin which has entangled you, you do not seek an excuse for it, and you desire to walk in holiness. This is not the mark of one who is content to remain a slave, but of one whom Christ is drawing toward liberty.

You describe a painful pattern, strength and boldness for Christ, then strong temptation, then a fall, then shame and distance, then a cloud upon the mind so that even familiar things like your teaching and your speech in English become labored. You ask whether this is guilt and anxiety, or spiritual warfare, or both. Hear this, the same trial may be both a temptation and a trial, and it may be a trial from God's side and a temptation from Satan's side. When you stand boldly for Christ and refuse idolatry, God is proving you, but the adversary is also tempting you. It should not surprise you that after you have been upon the pinnacle, the tempter comes with a fierce assault. He would have you cast yourself down. He would silence your witness by defiling your conscience.

You must understand that purity and charity are the two great garments of Christianity, and charity without purity will be of no use, for without holiness no man shall see the Lord. The text insists upon careful self watching. It is your very person, your soul, your heart, your very self that is to be kept unspotted from the world. What a man is, the man before long does. Therefore watch.

And watch with a humble self distrust which shrinks from the conflict. Our Lord taught us to pray, Lead us not into temptation. That prayer is not a light word. It confesses that in ourselves we have no strength, and it asks the Father to spare us from too great trials lest we fall by their overcoming our patience, our faith, or our steadfastness. The man who prays Lead us not into temptation and then goes into it is a liar before God. So you must not only pray against the sin when it is upon you, you must avoid the place and provision for it. Make no provision for the flesh. Guard the eye, guard the heart, guard the solitary hour, guard the screen which has become to many a snare. If you know the hour and the way in which temptation most fiercely assails you, set a watch there beforehand by prayer and by flight.

You have learned also how little our own strength can do. Without me ye can do nothing, says Christ, and that includes those little acts of grace for which in our proud self conceit we think ourselves already equipped. When we feel spiritually strong we are in danger of becoming self reliant, and it is a great mercy for God's servants when they tremble even after long service. Your boldness in speaking for Christ is good, but let it be joined with trembling dependence, lest after you have spoken well for Him you trust in your own steadfastness and fall. Every particle of self reliance is but a new particle of poison infused into our veins. From all reliance upon self, good Lord deliver us.

When you fall, shame would drive you from God. That is the very device of the enemy. Do not run away from Him who alone can cleanse you. A fall does not prove that grace has left you, but it proves that you must humble yourself anew and look again to Christ alone. There is much self abnegation which is not genuine, but true self humbling throws away every rag of self righteousness and falls naked upon the sea of Divine love, and a naked spirit was never drowned there. Christ is not a somebody who lived long ago and then died. He is alive, He is your familiar Friend, and His blood cleanses from all sin. To be kept unspotted is not by your resolve alone, but by His keeping.

As to the mental fog and the buffering of speech and teaching which follows, do not wonder at it. Guilt and anxiety will cloud the mind and steal confidence, and the adversary loves to follow a fall with accusation that you may be silent and useless. The shame that makes you feel far from God will also make your tongue falter and your thoughts scatter. This is why you must deal quickly with sin by confession, and not let shame become a wall between you and your Father. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Go at once to Him, not away from Him.

Therefore I would counsel you thus. Keep short accounts with God. The moment temptation whispers, cry Lead us not into temptation and turn the eye and the foot aside. Do not dally. Flee youthful lusts. Fill the mind with Scripture, and set apart special seasons for self examination, not to feed despair, but to discover whether things are right between God and your soul. Seek Christian fellowship where you can walk in the light and be accountable, for isolation is the tempter's field. And when you have fallen, do not measure God's love by your shame, but run to the cross and plead again for a clean heart and a steadfast spirit.

I have prayed for you and will pray for you as you have asked, that God will give you strength to overcome this sin, that you will discern temptation before it masters you, that He will create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you, that shame will not drive you from the throne of grace, that you will grow in holiness, self control and obedience, and that Christ will keep you faithful and restore you quickly when you stumble, so that your voice for Him and your labor among your students may be with liberty and power.

Take courage. The struggle you describe is known to many saints, and Martin Luther was a mighty master in the art of consolation because there was scarcely a temptation which he had not experienced. You are not alone in this conflict, and you are not cast away for being tempted or even for having fallen. Look to Christ for all things. He who taught you to pray Lead us not into temptation is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. May He do it, and may He give you victory, not that you may glory in yourself, but that you may walk softly, humbly, purely, and usefully before Him all your days.
