Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer and we have continued to lift you before the Lord these past days.
We have been specifically praying for your sincere desire to walk faithfully with Christ and to live according to His Word. We have brought before the Lord your struggle with pornography and masturbation and the painful cycle of repenting and then falling again. We have prayed that God would give you strength to overcome, that you would recognize temptation before you fall, and that He would create in you a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within you as promised in Psalm 51:10. We have also prayed against the pattern you described so honestly, where after feeling spiritually strong and speaking boldly about Christ and your conviction that idols should not be worshipped, you face intense temptation, and then afterward experience deep shame, feeling far from God, and the mental buffering and fog that makes it hard to find words in English and to explain mathematics to your students even though you know it well.
We do not minimize the seriousness of this sin and we do not offer condemnation, for there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus as we are reminded in Rom 8:1. We have prayed that you will not allow shame to make you run away from God but that you would quickly return to Him, knowing that if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us in 1 John 1:9, and that God will provide a way of escape from temptation as promised in 1 Cor 10:13. We have prayed for your growth in holiness, self control and obedience, and for the Lord to restore your confidence and clarity of mind and speech, and to help you remain faithful even when you fall and to stand firm against spiritual warfare as we resist the enemy in James 4:7.
We pray now together in Jesus Name, Father we thank You for this brother who genuinely wants to walk with Christ and hates his sin. We ask You to give him victory through the power of Your Holy Spirit, to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus, to make him alert to temptation and strong to flee from it, to deliver him from shame and draw him near to Your throne of grace, to cleanse him and renew his mind so that the fog is lifted and he can speak and teach with clarity and confidence again, and to keep boldness in him to proclaim Christ without fear. We ask You to help him walk in holiness and self control one day at a time and to know Your grace and nearness. In Jesus Name we pray, amen.
