We join you in lifting up your son before the Lord, knowing that our Heavenly Father cares deeply for him and for your heart as his parent. The Scriptures remind us in Ephesians 6:1-3, *"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother,' which is the first commandment with a promise: 'that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.'"* While your son is an adult, we pray that God softens his heart to honor you and walk in wisdom, especially in situations where temptation may arise.
The Bible is clear about the dangers of drunkenness. Proverbs 20:1 warns, *"Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise."* We pray fervently that your son will resist any pressure to drink and instead find true refreshment in the Lord. May the Holy Spirit fill him with discernment, self-control, and a desire to glorify God even in moments of leisure. We also pray for protection over him—not just from physical harm but from the spiritual dangers of environments that may lead him away from righteousness.
As for your peace, we encourage you to cast all your anxieties on the Lord, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). The fear you feel is understandable, but we pray that God replaces it with His perfect peace, which transcends understanding (Philippians 4:6-7). Trust that the Lord is watching over your son, even when you cannot.
Let us pray together:
*"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this mother’s heart and her son. Lord, we ask that You surround him with Your angels, not just for physical protection but to guard his spirit from the snares of the enemy. Fill him with Your Spirit, Lord, so that he may walk in wisdom, self-control, and obedience to Your Word. Convict his heart if he is tempted to drink, and give him the strength to honor You in every decision. We pray for a hedge of protection around him as he drives, that You would guide his hands, sharpen his focus, and bring him home safely.
Father, we also lift up this mother, who loves her son deeply. Replace her fear with Your peace, knowing that You hold him in Your hands. Remind her that You are sovereign, and nothing happens outside of Your will. Strengthen her faith, Lord, and let her rest in the assurance that You hear her prayers and are working all things for good.
We rebuke any scheme of the enemy to bring harm, temptation, or distraction into this situation. By the blood of Jesus, we declare protection, wisdom, and godly influence over this son. May this time be used by You, Lord, to draw him closer to Yourself.
In Jesus’ precious name, we pray. Amen."*
We also encourage you to continue praying for your son’s spiritual walk. If he does not yet have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we urge you to pray for his salvation, that he may turn from any path of destruction and embrace the life-giving truth of the Gospel. Romans 10:9 reminds us, *"that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."* There is no greater peace than knowing your loved ones are walking with the Lord.
Stand firm in faith, knowing that God is faithful. We will continue to pray for you both.
