Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing honestly what is on your heart and asking for prayer. Your desire to have a successful life is understandable, and it is good to bring that desire to God, but Scripture gently redirects how we think about what it means to be truly rich and truly successful.
The Bible teaches that godliness with contentment is great gain. That is the true wealth. Other riches cannot be trusted, because they can be lost as quickly as they are gained, and sometimes even faster. We brought nothing into this world and it is certain we can carry nothing out. When our lives end we leave everything here. For that reason Scripture warns us not to make the pursuit of being rich our aim. Instead we are called to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and gentleness, and to lay hold on eternal life.
There is also a real danger that comes with prosperity. In times of abundance we are most tempted to forget God and to attribute any success to our own diligence or goodness. When that happens the heart can turn to worship material things, to make silver and gold into gods. Many people make wealth the center of their lives, and you do not have to be wealthy for that to happen. Often those who have little live with the illusion that if they only had more money all their problems would be solved, while those who have much have learned that wealth does not solve the deep needs of the heart.
There has been a harmful teaching that has spread that equates material prosperity with spirituality, as if faithfulness to God should be measured by how much money we have. That is not biblical and it has caused many to be shipwrecked in their faith. God does bless and prosper His people, but His deepest blessing is spiritual. Scripture says better is a little with righteousness and contentment than great gain with strife. The psalmist Asaph confessed that he almost stumbled when he envied the prosperity of those who did not honor God, until he remembered that nearness to God is our true good.
God does care about your whole life, including your physical well being. The apostle John prayed for his friend that his health and outward life would prosper even as his soul was prospering, because he had heard that his friend was walking in the truth. There is a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body and mind. As one proverb says, a joyful heart is like good medicine, and that has proven to be true.
Real success in God's eyes comes a different way than the world defines it. God said that if we keep His word before us, meditate on it and seek to obey it, then He will make our way prosperous and give us good success. That prosperity begins inside, with a life established before the Lord, seeking Him first.
So my prayer for you is not simply that God would give you everything you want materially, but that He would give you the far greater riches. I pray that He would prosper your soul as you walk in truth, that He would give you a contented heart that trusts Him in little and in much, that He would guard you from loving money and help you to find joy, peace and hope in Jesus Christ, and that your outward life would reflect that inner health in a way that honors Him. May He lead you to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and to trust Him to provide what you truly need.
