Physically, emotionally exhausted

Your exhaustion is heard, and it is right to bring it honestly to the Father. He sees when the body is worn down and the heart is weary, and His desire for you is peace. Scripture says He will keep in complete peace the one whose mind rests on Him, because that person trusts Him. That is not a peace the world can give. Jesus told His disciples that He leaves His own peace with them and gives it in a way the world never can.

To know that peace that guards the heart and mind, we first need peace with God, and that only comes through the blood of Jesus Christ who made peace for us. When you belong to Him, you are no longer at war with God or running from Him. From that place, He can then fill you with His own peace that goes beyond human understanding, a peace that stays steady even when life is full of turmoil, if you keep your thoughts stayed on Him.

There is also a real connection between the health of your soul and the health of your body. The proverb says a joyful heart is like good medicine, and we are learning how true that is. Worry and inner turmoil can wear down the body, while the prosperity of the soul brings strength to the whole person. Part of caring for yourself in this tired season is to feed the spiritual life as faithfully as you feed the physical life. The body gets its regular meals without fail, but the inner life often goes unfed. Quiet prayer and resting in His Word feed the inner person, and that brings renewal to body and emotions as well.

Think of the Lord as a shepherd who lays Himself down at the door of the fold. Nothing can come in to harm the sheep and no sheep wanders out without passing over Him. He watches over you as you sleep. Like the man who in his weariness dreamed of a ladder reaching from earth to heaven with the Lord standing above it, you can know that heaven is not far from you in this exhausted place. God is present, He is over you, and He has ordained peace for you. He wants you to dwell safely and to sleep in the shelter of His care, and He is the one who works on your behalf.

May the Father surround you with His presence now and fill you with that quiet, perfect peace. May He grant you deep, restorative sleep and let His peace keep your heart and mind through the night. And may He renew your strength for the day ahead, as you keep your mind stayed on Him and trust Him to carry what you cannot carry yourself. I pray this grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ will rest upon you, in Jesus name, Amen.
