We hear your cry for rest and renewal, and we join you in lifting this burden before the Lord. The weariness you feel, both in body and spirit, is not unknown to our Heavenly Father. Scripture reminds us, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:28-29 WEB). Jesus Himself invites you to lay down your exhaustion at His feet, for He alone can sustain you when your strength fails.
Your prayer in Jesus’ name is powerful, for there is no other name by which we can approach the throne of grace (Acts 4:12). It is through Christ that we find true rest, not just for our bodies, but for our souls. We pray now that the Lord would indeed surround you with His presence, like a shield of peace that guards your heart and mind (Philippians 4:7). May His peace, which surpasses all understanding, settle over you like a gentle blanket, calming every anxious thought and soothing every ache.
Father God, we ask that You grant this dear one the sleep they desperately need, sleep that is deep, restorative, and undisturbed by the cares of this world. Let Your angels watch over them through the night, and may they wake refreshed, knowing that Your mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Strengthen them for the day ahead, not by their own might, but by Your Spirit (Zechariah 4:6). You speak of being utterly spent in body and soul, and oh, how well we know that place of heaviness. Yet it is precisely when the cistern of our own strength is dry that we are driven to the fountain that never fails. Hear the sweet command: “Rest in the Lord.” Not in yourself, not in striving, but in him. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within the conscience, and that peace is a present possession. It is not a dream reserved for heaven, but a gift to be received now by an act of instant faith. Come, weary one, recline upon the promise, and he will give you rest, rest given there and then, perfect and complete.
The sleep you crave is no small mercy; it is the peculiar gift of the Beloved. The Lord puts his own fingers on the eyelids, sending a balmy influence over the frame. A quiet conscience, made right with God through Christ, is the pillow that banishes the demon of restlessness. Then you may sing, “With the world, myself, and thee, I, ere I sleep, at peace shall be.” So be assured, he giveth his beloved sleep. Commit your cares to him who never slumbers, and lie down in the fold of the Good Shepherd, for he makes his sheep to rest at noon even when the wolves are howling.
For tomorrow’s strength, remember: they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. When you wake, the portion will be meted out. It may come gradually, as the dew upon the grass, but it will be wisely balanced, fitly infused. If you feel no might, that is the very moment to breathe a prayer and then take your leap, trusting not in nature but in omnipotence joined to eternal love. To do the will of Jesus is rest; to serve in his strength is peace. So yield yourself to that holy activity which is no weariness, and you shall find yourself borne along by the everlasting arms.
