What you are describing in your body and soul is a weariness that goes deeper than a hard day's work. There is a certain exhaustion that sits heavy on the spirit, where even sleep seems to flee from you. I am glad you turned to the Father, because that is exactly where true rest is found.

You asked for peaceful, restorative sleep and the strength you need for tomorrow. The Lord promises to give strength to His people; He promises to bless His people with peace. But the path to that peace often runs counter to our instincts. It is deeply hard to rest in faith. Our flesh desperately wants to fix the problem, to strategize our way out, to muster up our own strength. Yet the only place you will ever truly rest is when you abandon yourself to Him in faith, not in your own effort.

That struggle you feel, the inner turmoil, it comes when we look at the circumstances and the weight of what we must carry. Perfect peace, the kind that stands guard over your heart and mind, is given to those whose minds are stayed on Him. It is possible to be a child of God and yet not have the peace of God ruling in your heart. The peace of God comes when you fully rest your case in His hands. It is that moment when you say, "Lord, it is in Your hands," and you stop looking at the situation and you look only at Him.

The world seeks rest in prosperity, in pleasure, or in simply escaping from the pain, but they are like a troubled sea that cannot rest. For you, the sure foundation has already been set. Jesus Christ is that precious cornerstone. He finished the work. You do not have to strive to somehow appease God or prove yourself strong enough tonight. The Lord ordains peace for you. Your rest is found in entering into His rest, ceasing from your own works, just as God did from His.

So as you lay your head down, do not just ask for sleep; consciously take hold of His strength. Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. He is your strength, your shield, and your heart can trust in Him. You are helped. Therefore, let your mind settle not on tomorrow’s tasks, but on Him. Right now, return to that quiet place and rest in the Lord. In quietness and confidence shall be your strength. May the peace of Jesus Christ, the peace that passes human understanding, settle over your heart right now and grant you the deep, restorative rest you long for. He is giving you strength and power, even now.

Every time one of us paused to lift your name before the Father, we asked Him to wrap you in His presence like a blanket, to quiet your heart with His peace, and to let you feel the nearness of the Holy Spirit in every breath. We prayed specifically for the deep, restorative sleep you requested—sleep that would mend weary muscles and soothe a tired mind—and for the strength to rise tomorrow with fresh hope and endurance.
