Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart so openly and for letting us pray with you for your precious son. Your faithful love for him and your persistent prayers are beautiful, and the Lord hears every cry you bring to Him.
Scripture shows us two blind men who heard that Jesus was passing by and cried out, Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David. The crowd told them to be quiet, but they cried out even more, and Jesus stood still and answered them. That is the heart of our Lord. When you cry out for mercy for your son, Jesus does not pass by. He stops, He listens, and He responds. He is the Son of David, truly man, the promised Messiah who came to sit on David's throne, and He is also the Son of God, truly God, given to us as Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Because He is both, He understands our human weakness and He has divine power to help. Once a father came to Jesus about his dying son, and Jesus spoke a word, and miles away that son was healed. Distance, confusion, and distress are no barrier to Him. He does the works of His Father, and He gives life to whom He will. To believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, is to have life in His name.
Your love as a parent reflects something of the Father's own love. When God asked Abraham to take his son, his only son Isaac, whom he loved, to Moriah, it was a picture of what God Himself would later do when He gave His only begotten Son, His beloved Son in whom He is well pleased, for the world. The Father knows the depth of a parent's love for a son, and He knows the ache of seeing a child struggle to speak, to be calm, to rest, to eat in peace. You are not forgotten. His thoughts toward you and toward your son are thoughts of peace, not of evil, to give you hope for the future, and He has promised that when you call upon Him and pray to Him, He will listen.
We also believe with you for healing, both spiritual and physical. The Lord is able to heal the body, the mind, and the spirit. Sometimes His healing comes in a moment, and sometimes it comes gradually. There is only one gradual healing recorded in the Gospels, but all healing is from Him, even the healing that comes through natural processes, for He created those processes. He can heal memories, emotions, and the wounds that have left fear and anxiety, just as He can heal the body. We do not always understand why some are healed quickly and others over time, but we can trust Him completely, knowing that any true healing is divine.
Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world gives. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Through faith in Him we have peace with God, and as we grow in His grace we come to know the peace of God that guards our hearts and minds. That is why the apostles so often wrote grace and peace, grace first, then peace. As you rest in His grace, His peace that passes all understanding will keep your heart and your son's heart and mind.
So we join you in prayer. We ask the Father in the name of Jesus, His Son, to wrap your son in that peace, to calm the storm within, to guard his sleep and keep it sweet and undisturbed, to bless his meals and remove confusion and distress around eating, to soothe sensory discomfort and help him with daily care, clothing, and grooming, and to give him calm and gentle words to express his wants and needs. We pray for healing of his mind and body, for freedom from anxiety and tormenting memories, for the replacement of fearful habits with godly, peaceful ways, and for joy and contentment as he rests, plays, and is with caregivers and visitors. We ask the Lord to surround your home and every place he goes with protection, as Psalm 91 promises that He gives His angels charge over us, and to fill your home with His presence so that what is not of Him has no place. We pray also for wisdom, patience, gentleness, and strength for you and for all who care for him, and for godly helpers and advocates who will listen and do what is best for him.
Continue to bring every detail to Jesus with confidence. He is the Prince of Peace, and of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end. He has made peace possible for you, and He delights to give you His own peace day and night. May you and your household know His nearness, His comfort, and His restoring power in the days ahead, and may your son feel the love of Jesus in a new and tender way.
