Peace

We are moved by your desire for peace with your mother, and we join with you in seeking God's will for this relationship. The Lord places great importance on the relationship between a parent and child, and He also calls us to pursue reconciliation and forgiveness even when it feels difficult or when distance and silence have grown between us.

Scripture tells us Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you Exodus 20:12, and this is repeated as Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth Ephesians 6:2-3. To honor does not mean we ignore hurt or pretend wrongs did not happen, but it does mean we treat our parents with respect, humility, and love as unto the Lord. We are also commanded If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. That places the responsibility on us to take the initiative, even if the other person does not respond as we hope. Jesus taught If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift Matthew 5:23-24. While that speaks of a brother, how much more does it apply to a mother.

We gently encourage you to examine your own heart before the Lord first, asking Him to reveal any bitterness, unforgiveness, or pride that may have taken root. Scripture warns us to be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32, and bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do Colossians 3:13. If there are unresolved offenses, on either side, forgiveness is not optional for us as believers, even while trust may need time to be rebuilt. An hour distance is not so far that it prevents obedience, and silence is often broken by one humble step. We encourage you to pray earnestly for her, then to reach out with a soft and humble approach, perhaps a simple phone call, a handwritten letter, or asking if you may visit briefly, without demanding an immediate outcome. Let your words be seasoned with grace, taking ownership for your part where needed, expressing love and honor, and making clear your desire for peace. If conversation is difficult, a godly pastor or mature believer may help mediate. And we must remember that we can only do our part, we cannot control her response, but God honors our obedience and can work in her heart in His timing.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and true peace. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Our peace with others flows from first having peace with God through faith in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again, forgiving us so that we can forgive others. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Him, confess your sins, and receive His forgiveness and new life.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and ask for Your mercy and healing over this mother and child relationship. Lord, soften both hearts, remove bitterness and pride, and give our dear one courage and humility to take the first step toward reconciliation. Show what needs to be confessed and forgiven, and give words that are gentle and full of grace. We ask that You prepare the mother's heart to receive love and to respond, and that You would bring peace that passes understanding into this family. Help us to honor You in how we honor our parents, and to live peaceably as much as it depends on us. Draw this dear one closer to Jesus, that knowing His forgiveness they may freely forgive and walk in Your will. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

We hear how heavy that silence must feel, with your mother only an hour away and yet no words between you. Wanting peace again is a good desire, and it makes sense you are asking how to begin.

It can help to know that finding peace in your own heart and rebuilding the relationship are connected but not the same thing. You can start to let go of bitterness and wish her well even while the relationship is still distant. Coming back together in a healthy way takes both people willing to move toward each other, and it often happens slowly, in small steps.

You do not have to solve everything at once. One gentle next step many find workable is to write a brief, kind note rather than trying to cover the whole history. Keep it simple, say you care about her and would be open to talking when she is ready, without pressing for an answer or rehashing old hurts. Give her time to take it in. If direct contact feels too difficult, asking a trusted pastor or a calm family friend to help carry a message can make it safer for you both.

We are carrying this with you before the Lord.

Father, we lift this child and mother to You. Soften what is hard, heal what is wounded, and give wisdom for each next step. Where conversation is possible open the door, and where it is not yet possible grant quiet peace and patience. Lead them both toward what is good and right in Your eyes. In Jesus' name, amen.

How do I make peace with my mother when she lives ### hour away and we don't speak to each other.

🙏 Father, we ask for True Christian Fellowship, 1 Jn 1:2-7, for abiding fruit of the Holy Spirit, Jn 15:7-8, Gal 5:22-23. Bless Our Parents 2 Pet 1:3. May our company and prayers, sharing of The Word, John 17:17, lead to Healthy and prosperous Souls, 3 Jn 1:2, Renewed Minds Rom 12:2, Grace to Honor Parents Eph 6:2-4, Spiritual, Emotional, Temporal Support, Fruitfulness...

🧎🏽‍♂️Father, we humble ourselves as we bless You and forget none of Your benefits: Pardon of iniquities, Healing of All our diseases, the crowning our lives with tender-mercy and compassion, satisfying our years with good things so that our youth is renewed as the eagles, Ps 103:1-5. Forgive us, but we can't help but to ask for still more grace, James 4:6, to share The Word with these elderly loved ones as they've been enabled to hear, Mk 4:33, for grace to honor our parents, Eph 6:1-3, the command with promises, it will go well with us and we'll live long in the land. Powerfully provide everything they need for life and godliness, 2 Peter 1:3, emotional & bodily health and prosperity, even as their souls prosper, 3 Jn 1:2. We ask they (and we) GROW in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, 2 Pet 3:18. Help them be established in the elementary principles of the Word of God, Heb 5:12, the foundational doctrines of the faith, Heb 6:1-3, and grow up into maturity, Eph 4:15, Col 1:10, culminating in love for You, others and fullness of the Holy Spirit's fruit, Phil 1:9-11; Gal 5:22-23.

🙇🏻 We therefore ask for Blessing, Honor, GRACE, Immediate HEALING, Ex 15:26, for our Patriarchal and Matriarchal Figures (and ourselves, kindly, Matt 7:7)... Kindly ask Healing at Present: Deliver us from evil, Matt 6:13: (hurt, harm, injury, sickness, sin and satan). In Jesus' Name we collectively rebuke sickness over matriarchal, Luke 4:39, and restrain evil people and the evil one from each, 2 Thes 3:2-3. Grant peace to be within their walls, Ps 122:7, even as we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, Ps 122:6, take us not out of the world, but keep us from the evil one, John 17:15, as You sanctify us in the truth of Your Word, John 17:17, wash us with the Water of The Word, Eph 5:26.

Open the eyes of our understanding with The Holy Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation, Eph 1:17-18, strengthen us by rooting and grounding us in love, that Christ dwells in our hearts by faith, Eph 3:16-19, and open our minds to not only understand the Scriptures, Luke 24:45, but to crave the sincere milk of the Word, 1 Peter 2:2, that we may grow thereby. Help us all to move from milk to solid food, 1 Cor 3:2. And help let the Word of Christ richly dwell within us, Col 3:6, spread rapidly and be glorified, 2 Thes 3:1 and become flesh, John 1:14. Help us receive FRESH TRUTHS day after day and night after night, Ps 19:1-2, Prov 2:6, and retain the Word, Ps 119:11, being effectual doers, not merely hearers, James 1:21-22. May this result in abiding communion with YOU, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit, 1 John 1:1-3, bear fruit of true discipleship by continuing in Your Word, John 8:31-32, making disciples, Matt 28:19-20, as Paul aspired to bear fruit among those beyond his sphere, Rom 1:13. Let us all taste the goodness of answered prayer by abiding in You and Your Words abiding in us, John 15:7-8 and make our joy complete, John 15:24. Ultimately let them and us be transformed by the renewing of our minds that we may prove what the will of God is, Rom 12:2, being renewed in the spirit of our minds, Eph 4:23, having the mind of Christ, 1 Cor 2:16, and our minds prepared for battle, 1 Peter 1:13. 🙌 Thank You, Father, and you all who agree, pray silently or post, in Jesus' Name...

A desire for peace with your mother is itself a gracious work of God in your heart, and it is right to follow it. Scripture calls us to honor our father and mother and, as far as it depends on us, to live peaceably with all, and most of all with those of our own household.

You speak of distance and silence, and both can make the heart grow heavy. Yet forgiveness is not measured by miles. The forgiveness we have received in Christ is a divine forgiveness, surprising and complete, an eternal forgiveness that blots out the debt entirely. We who have been so freely and fully forgiven are called to copy that pattern, even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. It is a joint work of mutual forgiveness, and members of Christ's family should take large shares in it.

If you long to make peace, consider these steps before the Lord.

First, bring the matter honestly before God in prayer. Confess your own part, whatever it may be, and ask for a soft and penitent heart. Remember that there is forgiveness with God, and He delights to give it to those who seek it through Jesus Christ. Ask Him to prepare both your heart and your mother's.

Second, take the initiative as God enables you. Romans teaches us that as much as it lies within us, we should pursue peace. Do not wait for the other to move first. A humble letter or a gentle phone call can break a long silence better than waiting for a perfect moment. Speak simply, without accusation, owning what you can own and expressing love and desire for reconciliation.

Third, make the distance small by an act of love. An hour is not far when love travels it. You might write first to ask if you may call or visit, so that your approach is gentle and gives her room to respond. If she is willing, a brief visit, with a willingness to listen more than to speak, often does more than many words at a distance.

Fourth, forgive as you have been forgiven, and keep forgiving. Our Lord not only forgave at the first but continues daily to forgive, and He does not forgive and afterwards accuse. So we are to forgive freely, completely, and continually, not keeping a record of debts. This does not mean that all wounds are healed in a moment, but it does mean releasing bitterness and entrusting justice and healing to God.

If conversation is difficult, keep it short, kind, and Christ centered. You might say that you love her, that you miss fellowship with her, that you are sorry for your part in the estrangement, and that you desire peace for the glory of God. Avoid rehearsing every past wrong at once. Let one step of obedience lead to the next.

If she does not respond at first, continue to pray, to show consistent kindness, and to remain open. Some hearts are brought down with labor before they are ready to receive peace, and the Lord may use your patient, prayerful love over time.

May the Lord, who has forgiven you so completely in Christ, give you wisdom, humility, and courage to seek peace. We will pray that He softens both hearts, opens a door for conversation, and restores fellowship in a way that honors Him.

There is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ, and that same forgiveness is the pattern and power for our forgiveness of one another. May He guide your next step and give you His peace as you walk in obedience.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
