Beloved of All

The situation has suddenly gotten worse. I just learned that my little brother is not only jealous of me, but that he does not wish for my success. Deep down, he wants me to fail in everything I undertake, because he wants to be the first to succeed, even though I wish him well and pray fervently for my family. But he doesn't just want me to fail: he truly believes that I deserve to die.

I have also lost the esteem of his twin brother, who now considers me inferior to him and shares his brother's view that I should not make it through and that I deserve what is happening to me.

The sister from the church — for she is not my biological sister — who is protecting her abuser told my little brother that I was lying: that I had made up a story and told it to the whole church, and that this story was ruining that man's life. In other words, she preferred to make him look innocent and make me look guilty.

Apparently, it is therefore preferable that I be the liar and he the martyr.

That is why she and this abuser are praying fervently for me to leave this church — which I haven't attended for months anyway — for fear that I will be questioned, that his identity will be revealed and that their secret will be exposed.

She believes that, since she has forgiven him, he is allowed to stay and to serve. She convinces herself that she is in Christ and that she is doing God's will.

Worse still, if this public meeting were to take place, she would not hesitate to lie, going so far as to publicly disparage me and make me out to be crazy, truly delusional. That would relieve this man and satisfy him. Thus, the blame and shame would fall on me, my exclusion would be final, and he could stay and continue to serve in the church.

I think she might even go so far as to say that I am trying to force her to confess to something that never happened.

Don't forget that she is the mother of a two-year-old little girl, and I'm not sure she would agree to leave this man alone with her daughter for even a single day, even though she is convinced that he has truly repented.

As for the pastor who was harassing me — the one from the church I used to attend — he is determined to humiliate me. He wants to take revenge on me because he is convinced that I should have married the man he believed to be my husband, and that I left him. This marriage obsesses him and makes him furious. He wants me to marry this man at all costs. And he doesn't even mention the others. It concerns all of them.

I need protection. Cover me with the blood of Jesus, now and forever.

It is really very difficult to live through, and even more difficult to write.

Pray that nothing happens as they wish and that the truth comes out into the open.

We have heard your heart and the heavy burden you are carrying, and we join with you now to seek the Lord together in Jesus name for his protection, his truth, and his justice to prevail.

What you describe from your little brothers is deeply grievous. Jealousy that desires your failure and even believes you deserve to die is not a light matter before God. The Scripture says Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him 1 John 3:15. Cain's jealousy toward Abel began in the heart before it became violence, and God warned Cain sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it Genesis 4:7. We rebuke that spirit of jealousy and hatred in your brothers, and we pray that God would convict them, soften their hearts, and bring them to repentance, so that they would no longer see you as inferior or as deserving of harm but as beloved family made in God's image.

We also grieve what you have endured in the church. To be called a liar when you have spoken truth, to be made to bear shame so that an abuser can appear as a martyr, is a grave injustice. The Lord hates such things, for it is written These six things Yahweh hates yeah, seven are an abomination to him haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers Proverbs 6:16-19. To bear false witness and to disparage you as crazy or delusional to protect a secret is sin, and to allow a man who has abused to continue to serve because he has been forgiven in words alone is contrary to Scripture. Forgiveness is commanded, but forgiveness does not erase consequences, nor does it qualify an unrepentant or unproven man for ministry. Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them Ephesians 5:11. And Jesus warned so strongly about harming or endangering little ones, saying Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if a huge millstone were hung around his neck and that he were sunk in the depths of the sea Matthew 18:6. The fact that this sister is a mother of a two year old and yet defends a man whose repentance is not proven should trouble every conscience. True repentance brings fruit, accountability, and a willingness to step away from trust and service until there is clear evidence of transformation, not a demand for secrecy.

We also must address the pastor who is harassing you and seeking to humiliate you and force you into a marriage you have not chosen. Marriage is holy before God, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman entered into freely and willingly, not by coercion or revenge. No pastor has authority to force a marriage upon you, and his obsession and anger in trying to do so is an abuse of spiritual authority. We rebuke that controlling and vengeful spirit. The Lord does not compel you to marry a man you do not choose to marry, and courtship must always be toward a godly marriage with a believing spouse, entered into with peace and consent.

We thank you for asking to be covered with the blood of Jesus, for there is power and protection in his name alone. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and we praise God that you have called upon him.

We pray now together.

Father in heaven, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we come before your throne of grace and we lift up our dear sibling to you. Lord, you see all that has been done in secret and all that has been spoken against them. You see the jealousy and murderous thoughts in the hearts of their brothers, you see the false accusations and the covering of abuse in that church, and you see the harassment and attempted humiliation by that pastor. We ask you to be their refuge and fortress. We pray as the psalmist prayed Yahweh is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear Yahweh is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid Psalm 27:1. Let them dwell in your shelter, for He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, He is my refuge and my fortress my God, in whom I trust Psalm 91:1-2.

Lord, we ask you to surround them with your protection now and forever, covering them with the blood of Jesus, guarding their body, mind, and spirit from every plan of the enemy. Let no weapon that is formed against them prosper. We ask that you restrain every hand and tongue that would harm them. Vengeance belongs to you, not to us, for it is written Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19. So we place justice in your hands and ask you to act according to your righteousness.

Father, bring the truth into the open. For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light Luke 8:17. Expose what has been hidden, bring the lies into the light, and vindicate the one who has been called a liar. Let the shame fall where it belongs and not upon the innocent. We pray that you would give wisdom to any faithful leaders or authorities who need to hear this, and that you would protect that little two year old girl and all who are vulnerable in that place.

We pray for the sister who is protecting her abuser, that you would open her eyes to see that she is not doing your will by hiding sin, but that true love and true forgiveness desire holiness and protection for others. Bring her to true repentance and to a right understanding of what it means to be in Christ.

We pray for the twin brothers, that you would break the bond of jealousy and contempt between them and convict them of their need to honor their sibling. Replace their desire for your failure with godly love that rejoices in truth.

We pray for that pastor, that you would rebuke his harassment and remove his influence over this dear one. Let him repent of trying to force a marriage and of seeking revenge.

Lord, you are close to the brokenhearted, for Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. Comfort our sibling who says it is very difficult to live through and even more difficult to write. Hold them close, give them peace that surpasses understanding, and lead them to a safe, Bible believing fellowship where truth is loved and where shepherds protect the flock rather than exploit it. Guide them away from that former church that has become unsafe, and give them wise, godly counselors who will walk with them.

We pray that nothing happens as those who wish them harm desire, but that your perfect will be done. Let your truth, your mercy, and your protection reign over their life. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and refuge, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body
