We are lifting you up before the Lord together in this season where you feel overwhelmed by many negative things happening at once, and we thank you for reaching out and sharing your burden with us.
We know what it is to feel weighed down and overwhelmed, and the Word reminds us that God does not want us to carry these burdens alone. We are told in 1 Peter 5:7 to be casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Jesus himself invites us in Matthew 11:28, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. When our hearts are overwhelmed we can pray as in Psalm 61:2, When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. That rock is Christ, who is steady when everything around us feels unstable.
We also hear your doubts about whether you should continue attending your current church. We want to encourage you gently in this area. Scripture teaches us in Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Gathering with other believers is vital for our encouragement, correction, and growth, especially when we feel overwhelmed. At the same time, it is wise and biblical to examine whether a church is faithfully teaching the Word of God, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, and calling people to repentance, holiness, and truth. If there are concerns about doctrine, leadership, or practices that do not align with Scripture, we encourage you to bring those concerns to the Lord first in prayer, to search the Scriptures daily as the Bereans did, and to seek wise, godly counsel. We encourage you in James 1:5, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. Ask the Lord for clear wisdom and discernment, and do not make a hasty decision out of discouragement alone. Talk to your pastor if possible, and evaluate everything by the Word.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find true rest and salvation. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved as we read in Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Him, for Romans 10:9 tells us that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is by His name we pray and by His blood we have peace with God.
We want to pray for you now together.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear one who feels overwhelmed by many trials. Lord, You see every burden, every worry, and every doubt about the church and the future. We ask that You would pour out Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus according to Philippians 4:6-7. Teach them to be anxious in nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving to let their requests be made known to You. Comfort them as only You can, for You are close to the brokenhearted as in Psalm 34:18. Give them rest, strength for each day, and wisdom to know Your will regarding their church home. Lead them to a fellowship where Your Word is faithfully taught and where they can be encouraged and held accountable in love. Help them to keep their eyes on You, the rock that is higher, and to trust that You are working even through these negative circumstances for good. We pray they would draw near to Jesus, know His salvation fully, and find hope and assurance in His name. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to cast your cares on Him daily, to stay in the Word, and to remain connected to other believers even while you seek discernment. God is faithful and He will give you wisdom and peace as you seek Him. We are continuing to pray for you.
