No kids or babies for me

We hear your heart in this matter, and we want to approach it with both truth and grace. The desire to remain childless is a deeply personal one, but we must also consider what Scripture teaches about children, family, and God’s design for humanity.

First, we want to affirm that God has given each of us unique callings and seasons in life. The Bible does not command every person to have children, and there are examples of godly individuals who did not—such as Jesus Himself and the apostle Paul. However, Scripture consistently speaks of children as a blessing from the Lord. Psalm 127:3-5 (WEB) says, *"Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them."* This passage, among others, reveals God’s heart toward children as a gift and a means of joy and purpose.

That said, we must also recognize that God’s plans for each person are sovereign. If He has not opened the door to parenthood for you, we trust that He has other purposes for your life. However, we must examine the heart behind the decision. Is this choice rooted in selfishness, fear, or a rejection of God’s potential blessings? Or is it a conviction that aligns with His will for your life? Proverbs 16:9 (WEB) reminds us, *"A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps."* We encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly in prayer, asking Him to reveal His desires for you in this area.

We also want to gently challenge any mindset that views children as a burden rather than a blessing. While parenting is undoubtedly difficult and sacrificial, it is also one of the most profound ways God shapes us into Christlikeness. If you are married, we would encourage you and your spouse to seek the Lord together on this matter, remembering that marriage is designed, in part, for the raising of godly offspring (Malachi 2:15). If you are single, we would still encourage you to remain open to how God might use you in the lives of children, whether through mentorship, adoption, or other forms of spiritual parenting.

Finally, we must address the reality that some who choose childlessness do so out of a desire to prioritize personal comfort, career, or lifestyle over God’s potential calling. If that is the case, we would urge you to surrender this area of your life to the Lord and ask Him to align your desires with His. James 4:13-15 (WEB) warns, *"Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.' Whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. For you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.'"*

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our sister in Christ, lifting up her heart and desires to You. Lord, You know the depths of her thoughts and the motivations behind her choices. We ask that You would search her heart and reveal any areas where her will may not align with Yours. Father, if it is Your plan for her to remain childless, we pray that You would fill her life with other meaningful ways to serve You and bring glory to Your name. If it is Your will for her to embrace motherhood, whether biologically or through other means, we ask that You would soften her heart and give her a deep love for children.

Lord, we also pray against any spirit of fear, selfishness, or rebellion that may be influencing her decision. Replace those lies with Your truth, reminding her that every good and perfect gift comes from You (James 1:17). Help her to trust in Your sovereignty and to surrender her plans to Your perfect will. If she is married, we pray for unity with her spouse as they seek You together. If she is single, we ask that You would surround her with godly counsel and wisdom.

Father, we thank You for the gift of life and for the ways You use children to reflect Your image and expand Your kingdom. May our sister walk in step with Your Spirit, embracing whatever path You have for her with faith and obedience. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this matter, asking Him to confirm His will for your life through His Word, prayer, and godly counsel. Remember that God’s plans for you are good, and His timing is perfect. Whether He calls you to motherhood or another form of service, trust that He will equip you for whatever He has prepared. Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB) says, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."* May you find peace and confidence in His leading.

We've been thinking about your situation and wanted to share some more thoughts with you. We understand that this is a deeply personal decision, and we're here to support you as you seek God's will.

Firstly, we want to remind you that God values each individual's unique calling and journey. While children are often seen as a blessing, it's also true that not everyone is called to parenthood. We should never feel guilty or less than for not having children, as long as we're open to God's leading in our lives.

We're also reminded of the story of Hannah in the Bible (1 Samuel 1-2). She was deeply distressed because she had no children, but she poured out her heart to God. In her pain, she made a vow to dedicate her child to God's service if she were to have one. God heard her prayer, and she eventually gave birth to Samuel, who grew up to be a great prophet. This story shows us that God sees our struggles and hears our cries, and He can use our situations for His glory.

We encourage you to keep praying and seeking God's will in this matter. Remember, it's okay to feel uncertain or confused. God meets us in those places and guides us step by step. Trust that He has a purpose in your life, whether that includes children or not.

Let's also not forget the importance of community. If you're married, we encourage you to have open and honest conversations with your spouse about this. If you're single, we encourage you to seek godly counsel from trusted friends, mentors, or family members. Sometimes, talking it out with others can help bring clarity and peace.

We'll continue to pray for you, dear friend. We pray that God would give you wisdom, peace, and a deep sense of His love for you, regardless of the path He calls you to. We trust that He has the best in store for you. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
