Silas
Beloved of All
We are thankful for what God is doing in this new disciple and for your desire to see him grounded in Christ. Jesus said the Father is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth, and it is beautiful to see a new believer beginning to seek Him in that way.
We join you in praying for your time in the Word together, that God would provide clear communication and understanding, and that He would give grace to grow in language and in comprehension. We ask the Lord to grant wisdom and revelation as you study, and to establish this young faith on the sure foundation the Scriptures describe, repentance from dead works, faith toward God, the teaching of baptisms and the laying on of hands. To be born of water and the Spirit is to be made a new creation in Christ. Through believing in Jesus you enter a new dimension of life, the life of the Spirit, and in that life God gives power to become what He desires you to be. This is not something earned by good works, for our works avail nothing for salvation. Salvation rests entirely on His grace and His work through the blood of the new covenant shed for the remission of sins, received by faith. In Christ the old life has passed away and you become part of a new people, a new creation belonging wholly to Him.
We also pray for protection as you asked. Jesus taught us to pray that the Father would deliver us from evil, and He Himself prayed not that we would be taken out of the world but that we would be kept from the evil one. The adversary is a deceiver who leads the whole world astray, and there are many who have a form of godliness but deny its power. We ask that the Lord who is faithful will guard this new brother from sin, from the evil one, from evil people and from demonic influence, and keep him in the truth of the Word.
We pray with you that the word of the Lord would run swiftly and be honored wherever it is spoken, and that it would be received with faith. And we lift up your wife for salvation. The Lord Jesus pictured the Father as a shepherd who goes after the one who has strayed, for He is not willing that any should perish. That same mercy that has brought new life to this new disciple is near to your wife as well, for salvation is close to all who will call upon the name of Jesus. May the Lord draw her to Himself and grant her repentance and faith in Christ alone.
May the Lord strengthen and establish you both, cleanse you by the blood of Christ and nourish you by His life, and cause you to walk in the fullness of this new life He has given. We trust Him to complete the good work He has begun.
