Silas
Beloved of All
Grateful for your burden for this young man and for others who are just beginning to follow Jesus, and we gladly join you in prayer before the Father in Jesus name.
We pray first for this new believer that he would grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus as the Messiah. When a person is in Christ he becomes a new creation, the old things pass away and all things become new. That is what God is doing in him, not patching up an old life but giving a new life altogether, and we ask the Lord to establish him in that new covenant life founded on the blood of Jesus.
We also bring his physical need before the Lord, the infected muscular tear. Scripture shows that the suffering of Christ was not limited only to bearing sin. Matthew, writing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, applies Isaiah to the evening when many sick people were brought to Jesus at Peter's house and He healed them, showing that His atoning work embraces bodily healing as well. There is much phoniness and manipulation done today in the name of healing, and we reject that, yet we firmly believe that God is able to heal and that healing is for today. Our struggle to believe often comes from living in a very materialistic culture, but we ask the Lord in simple faith to touch this young man's body, to cleanse the infection, to restore the torn muscle, and to renew his strength according to Psalm 103 where God forgives all our iniquities and heals all our diseases and satisfies us with good things.
We pray for order and grace in his home with his wife who does not yet know the Lord, that God would bring healing to their relationship and that she would come to salvation through faith in Christ alone. We pray that as a husband he would walk in love and wisdom and lead his home in a way that honors the Lord.
We pray that he will continue to hunger for the pure milk of the Word as Peter describes, that his appetite for Scripture would increase daily and that his use of the Bible app would feed that hunger. We pray the same for every new believer and family you mentioned, that they would be drawn by the Father as Jesus said no one can come unless the Father draws him, that the seed of the Word sown in them would be watered by the Spirit and that God Himself would give the growth, for it is the Spirit who gives life through the Word. We pray they would be brought to full repentance and gathered together with God's people in the church.
We pray for you and for those laboring to reach others, for grace to learn Spanish and other languages for the sake of sharing the books of John and Acts and the whole counsel of God. We pray for wisdom in this and for a true understanding of spiritual gifts. In the Old Testament the sign of receiving the Spirit was often prophecy, in the New Testament it was often speaking in other tongues, but the gifts are distributed by the Spirit as He wills for the building up of the body, and we ask for clarity and interpretation that is orderly and Christ exalting, and for protection from counterfeits.
We pray for nearness to God, that you all would know how good it is to be near Him, to seek Him with the whole heart and to find Him, for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and to fear Him is to hate evil. We pray for a growing hatred of evil and love for what is holy.
We pray for protection from deception and deceivers, from sin and from the evil one. Jesus prayed in John 17 not that we would be taken out of the world but that we would be kept from the evil one, and we echo that prayer. We ask the Lord to guard your minds from false teaching, from empty talk and from the influence of those who have a form of godliness but deny its power, to keep you from stumbling into sin and to deliver you from the adversary who is a deceiver and accuser, who was defeated by the blood of the Lamb and who will finally be bound with a chain. Keep your eyes on Christ, remain in the Word, and walk in the light.
May the Lord cause His presence to be known among you, strengthen faith, and complete the new work He has begun.
