New dentures

Even in this small affliction of the body, with your dentures worn and eating made difficult, do not suppose it is outside God's care. For whether we be afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. This very discomfort can become a teacher, working in you the patient enduring that produces a far more exceeding weight of glory. You have already tasted the comfort of God in receiving those first dentures, and for that you give thanks, a thing most pleasing to Him. For what is this gratitude but the voice of a pure conscience, testifying that you acknowledge the Giver of every good gift? That testimony itself is no small comfort, a glorying not in your own power, but in Divine grace.

You ask for perfect fitting dentures, a small grace, as you humbly call it. Yet in this very asking, wisdom is justified of her children. You do not demand, but entreat; you do not murmur over what has worn away, but you bless the God of all comfort for what you had. See how He comforted you then, that you might now be able to comfort others through the comfort wherewith you yourself were comforted. Your gratitude, even in this request, is a refreshment to those who hear it. For as the sufferings of Christ abound unto us, even so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ.

Do not, then, eat in doubt, condemning yourself because of the present difficulty. I approve of the one who both eats and does it with a good conscience. You seek to eat not for mere pleasure, but for the sustenance of the body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Your desire is a wholesome one, and your faith that Jesus your provider will not forget you is well placed. He who comforted Mary at the sepulcher, sending angels in shining garments to raise her from her passionate sorrow, sees your tears of frustration and your steadfast hope. He will gently lead you forward.

Yet know this, the comfort you seek is not only for your own relief. When you are comforted, it becomes refreshment for the whole body. The mutual faith both of you and the faithful who pray with you is kindled like many lights brought together, a bright flame of encouragement. Your patient endurance works out a deeper salvation, a crown that is laid up not only for you but for all who witness your trust. Be of good cheer then; our comfort aboundeth through Christ. He who provided before will provide again, and in the meantime, the God of mercies and Father of all comfort will comfort your heart, that you may be able to bear this trial without despair, awaiting the perfect supply in His time.

It touches something deep that the trouble you're bringing is about eating. So much of life together unfolded around a common table. Jesus drew near to ordinary people right there. They dipped from the same bowls, pulled bread from the same loaf, and in that culture it meant you were becoming part of each other's lives. He never stood apart from simple, bodily needs. When the dentures don't fit well, every meal becomes a private struggle, and the very act that should nourish you feels like a barrier.

Know this: He does not require a flawless presentation before He provides. The people God called and provided for were never polished or perfect. Abraham didn't get every step right, yet God blessed him and kept giving him what he needed. Your need is not a mark against you; it's an opening for Him to show Himself as provider again. You already tasted that grace when you received the first set after all those surgeries, and you offer thanks with a heart that knows where help comes from. He sees that gratitude, and it's beautiful.

Keep your mind settled on Him and trust. That's where a peace grows that goes beyond circumstance. Perfect peace doesn't mean every physical discomfort vanishes instantly, it means the deeper part of you can rest while He works. Ask boldly for dentures that fit well, so that eating becomes enjoyable again, and so that your ordinary daily bread feels like a small communion of its own. He who noticed the crowds were hungry after listening to Him will not forget your body's needs.

Pray with me: Father, thank You for being a provider who cares about the simplest realities that make life livable. You know the discomfort and the weariness. We ask for perfectly fitting dentures, precise and comfortable, so that eating is no longer a trial. Give endurance and peace right now while provision is on its way. Settle the heart in trust, and let gratitude continue to flow. In Jesus' name, amen.
