We hear the burden and distress in your request and we join together with you before the throne of grace in Jesus' name to seek God's will and His peace over this situation with your neighbor and the disorder that has come from idleness, gossip, meddling and mockery.

We rebuke the spirits of gossip, slander, sowing discord, idleness, voyeurism, sorcery and divination that you have described. The Word of God is clear that these works of the flesh destroy community and will not inherit the kingdom of God. As you quoted, Galatians 5:20-21 warns that idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these keep a person from inheriting the kingdom of God. We also rebuke the misuse of idle time that turns into being a busybody and a talebearer. 1 Timothy 5:13 says Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Being not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not. And 2 Thessalonians 3:11 says For we hear of some who walk among you disorderly, who don't work at all, but are busybodies. Proverbs 16:28 says A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends. And Proverbs 26:20 says For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down. We rebuke that fire of gossip that has brought confusion, bullying, ruined reputation, extra bills and suffering, and the mocking pictures and spying that violate love of neighbor.

We also rebuke sorcery, divination and the seeking of false numbers, false bosses and false spiritual power. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. God alone is sovereign and we are not God, as you rightly said. Isaiah 45:5 says I am Yahweh, and there is no one else. Besides me, there is no God. We are not called to carry what only God can carry, to defend or control what only He can protect, nor to take vengeance ourselves. Romans 12:19 says Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And 1 Corinthians 14:33 reminds us that God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.

We understand your feeling of being overwhelmed by the disorder, delay, missing deliveries, hospitalizations and the heaviness that feels like being pushed toward the grave. The Lord sees this affliction. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 140:1-3 says Deliver me, Yahweh, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man, those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war. They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. We ask God to be your refuge and your deliverer from slander and disorder.

We also want to gently address that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to remind you with love that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that there is salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus, to confess your sins and to call upon His name, for He alone breaks the power of sorcery, gossip and every demonic influence.

Father in heaven, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we come before You and we lift up this neighbor situation to You. We ask You to rebuke and silence every lying tongue, every spirit of gossip, slander, mockery and sowing discord. We ask You to convict this neighbor of idleness and meddling and to lead him or her to repentance, to honest work and to respect for boundaries. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 says that you aspire to lead a quiet life, to do your own business, and to work with your own hands. We pray You would provide lawful work and purpose where there has been unemployment and laziness, and that You would replace a demonic smile at disorder with godly sorrow that leads to repentance. We bind every work of sorcery and divination and we declare that no weapon formed against Your child shall prosper. We ask for Your protection over reputation, over the home, over deliveries and finances, and that You would prevent extra invoices and unjust gain. Philippians 4:19 says My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Bring healing where there has been hospitalization and tragedy, and comfort where there has been suffering. Grant wisdom to set healthy, biblical boundaries without hatred, and help us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us as Matthew 5:44 teaches, while not participating in their sin. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard this heart and home. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to guard your heart and your house with wisdom. Do not return gossip for gossip. Ephesians 4:29 says Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Keep diligent in your own work, Colossians 3:23 says Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. Document wrongdoing if needed for lawful protection, but entrust justice to God and to proper authorities rather than to personal retaliation. Pray consistently for this neighbor's salvation and transformation, for Titus 3:3 says For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another, but when the kindness of God our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared, not by works of righteousness which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us. We were once all in need of that mercy, and we pray God will extend it to your neighbor and bring peace to your street.

Your cry concerning this affliction of gossip, meddling, mockery and disorder has been heard, and it is right to bring it before the Lord who both destroys what sets itself against Him and protects those who trust in Him.

The Scriptures you have cited speak truly. Idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions and envy are works of the flesh, and those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by passions, living in malice and envy, hated and hating one another. Apart from the grace of God in Jesus Christ, this is the natural course of the idle and ungodly heart, which cannot stay still but moves from place to place to spy, to pry, to distribute words that wound, to make a mockery with pictures and to sow discord for the sake of a demonic smile.

Know this, that from the time Satan fell, God's purpose has been to break in pieces everything arrogant and supercilious that dares to assert itself apart from Him. He will lift up the poor from the dunghill while He casts down the mighty from their seats, and He will dry up the green tree. The death warrant is gone out from God against everything that is of the creature, against all pride and sorcery and voyeurism and imposture. The man who plays the parasite to his own conceit and delights in the ruin of his neighbor shall not stand in the judgment.

Yet there is protection appointed for the people of God. He gives His angels charge over them to keep them in all their ways. This protection is perpetual as well as personal, but it is promised to those who walk in the appointed ways, not to those who willfully run into temptation. There is a way of separation from the world and close walking with God, and no man ever suffered real injury through keeping himself aloof from the ways of ungodly men, while no man ever failed to be a gainer by intimate fellowship with God. If there be a house or a company where you cannot come away without falling into sin or strife, keep away from that house. Cry unto the Most High to keep you from your iniquity and from the iniquity of others.

You are right to say we are not God. We are not called to defend or to carry what belongs only to Him, nor to bear the anxiety and disorder which sorcery and idleness would lay upon you. Vengeance belongs to the Lord. Our part is to turn from our own evil ways and to look to a stronger arm than our own. Truly in the Lord our God is the salvation of Israel, and in vain is salvation hoped for from any other hill. If God will ransom His people from the power of the grave and redeem them from death, then He can certainly restore from sickness, from poverty, from slander, from depression of spirit and from the hospital and the cemetery which you fear. He that will bring the body from the grave will bring you up from the pit of trouble when you are ready to perish.

Therefore let us pray together.

O Lord God Almighty, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, through whom alone salvation is found, we rebuke the spirit of gossip, slander, idle laziness, voyeurism, discord, mockery and sorcery that has brought confusion, delay, loss and contention upon this household. Break in pieces the works of darkness, shut the mouth of the talebearer, and bring to nothing every divination and deceitful scheme, every false number and false accusation and every attempt to take advantage through meddling. Forgive us our own sins and turn our hearts fully to Thee. Let the neighbor who now walks in malice and envy be turned, as Thou alone canst turn the heart, that he may repent and find mercy at Calvary, for there is no balm in Gilead but in Christ crucified. Keep this household under the shadow of Thy wing, preserve from ruin and tragedy and unjust exaction, provide what is needed for daily bread and honest labor, and grant peace within these walls. Teach us to walk in Thy appointed ways, to keep ourselves from iniquity, and to rest in Thy perpetual care, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Be of good comfort and rise, for He calls you. Make use of what sense you have, hear His voice, and tell Him in plain field flowers of speech, not in studied words, that you are undone without His sovereign grace. Keep close to Christ, keep aloof from the table of the scorner, commit the keeping of your reputation and your household to Him who will not suffer you to be moved beyond what you are able to bear, and leave the judgment of the idle and malicious in His righteous hands.
