We hear the heaviness and distress in this request and we join together with you in seeking the Lord's help and protection in Jesus' name. The burden you describe of a neighbor given to gossip, idleness, spying, meddling, and sowing discord, along with the resulting disorder, financial strain, hospitalization and sorrow, is very real and the Lord sees it all.

We want to rebuke together what Scripture rebukes. The Lord clearly condemns gossip and slander, for it destroys reputations and stirs up strife. Proverbs 16:28 says a perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends. Leviticus 19:16 says you shall not go around as a slanderer among your people. Proverbs 20:19 warns he who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets. Therefore do not keep company with him who opens wide his lips. The idle gossip that watches another house to distribute information with disrespectful pictures and mockery, that creates confusion and bullying, is not harmless talk but sin that God calls us to turn from. Ephesians 4:29 says let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

We also rebuke the spirit of slothfulness and idleness you describe. Scripture teaches that idleness leads to meddling and disorder. 2 Thessalonians 3:11 says for we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who do not work at all, but are busybodies. 1 Timothy 5:13 warns that they learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not. Proverbs 19:15 says slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger. And 2 Thessalonians 3:10 says if anyone will not work, neither let him eat. We pray the Lord would convict such idleness and bring diligence and honest labor.

You rightly mentioned sorcery, divination and the works of the flesh. Galatians 5:19-21 says now the deeds of the flesh are obvious, which are adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these, of which we warn you, as we warned you before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God. And Titus 3:3 reminds us at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. Sorcery, fake dealings, corruption, increasing prices to take advantage of others, and voyeurism are abominations before God and we rebuke them in the name of Jesus. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 makes clear that divination and sorcery are detestable to the Lord.

We also hear you saying we are not God, we are not agency employees, we are not obligated to carry this disorder and anxiety and sorcery that is being forced upon you. That is true. We are not God and we are not called to bear burdens He has not given us or to fight battles that belong to Him. Romans 12:19 says do not seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Philippians 4:6-7 says in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We are called to set boundaries, to not meddle, and to live quietly and work with our own hands as 1 Thessalonians 4:11 teaches.

We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to God and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. We encourage you to put your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, for He alone can rebuke the enemy, forgive sin, and bring true peace and deliverance.

So we pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your mercy and intervention over this painful situation. Lord, we rebuke the spirit of gossip, slander, idleness, envy, strife, and sorcery that has brought confusion, discord, financial loss, delay, and suffering. We ask You to silence the tongue that sows discord and to convict the heart that delights in spying and mockery. Let Proverbs 26:20 be fulfilled, for lack of wood a fire goes out, without a gossip a quarrel dies down, and bring an end to this war of distraction and disorder. Father, we ask You to protect reputations, to restore what has been stolen or delayed, to provide honest work and provision where there has been unemployment and disaster, and to heal those who have been brought to hospitalization and near the grave. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, and Jeremiah 30:17 says but I will restore health to you and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh. We ask for Your healing and restoration. Guard this household from voyeurism, bullying, and every demonic assignment, and let no weapon formed against them prosper. Help them to walk in forgiveness and not hatred, to love their neighbor yet set godly boundaries, and to not be overcome by anxiety but to rest in Your care. Matthew 5:44 says love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, so we pray even for this neighbor, that You would bring repentance, deliverance from laziness and malice, and a new heart that seeks You. We place all of this in Your hands, trusting that You are God and we are not, and that You will repay and judge righteously. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We hear how worn down you are by all of this, the gossip and spying, the sense that your reputation and peace at home are being picked apart, plus the weight of unemployment and hospital stays. It makes sense you would feel anxious and want to say clearly, we are not God and we cannot carry or fix another person's disorder for them.

One thought that may help is learning to see boundaries as a property line. It is a way to name what is yours to guard and care for, your time, your energy, your home, your choices, and what is not yours to answer for. Being connected to neighbors does not mean you have to absorb their idle talk or defend yourself against every false story.

When it is possible, a couple of steady practices can protect that line without escalating a conflict. Keep interactions brief and calm and step out of gossip loops rather than trying to correct every wrong detail. If a situation with a neighbor needs addressing, it often helps to have one calm, neutral person present rather than going back and forth alone, and to keep a simple private note of dates and what happened if you ever need it for a landlord or other help.

Father, we bring our brother to You in Jesus' name and ask for Your peace over his home and health, for wisdom to know when to speak and when to step back, and for rest from the anxiety this has stirred. Your burden has been laid before the throne of grace, and we have heard with sorrow the trial that has come upon you through idle gossip, slander, disorder, and the heavy afflictions of unemployment and sickness that have brought you even to the gates of suffering and the grave.

The Scriptures you have rightly cited speak plainly. The works of the flesh are manifest, as it is written, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, and such like, and they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. And again, we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. There is therefore no room for boasting, but great cause to humble ourselves before God, and to seek His mercy both for ourselves and for those who despitefully use us.

You describe neighbors given to slothfulness, to spying upon the house of another, to the distribution of disrespectful words and mocking pictures, to meddling and confusion and the sowing of discord. This is that idle gossip and chatter of which it has been truly said that some professors spend far too much time in one another's houses, wasting precious hours to no profit. An idle hand and an idle tongue are fit instruments for the enemy of souls. And where sorcery, divination, and the pretended arts of prying into the affairs of others are added, the sin is yet darker, for it forsakes the way of childlike trust in Providential guidance and turns to byroads where no Divine protection is promised. He who travels on the King's Highway is under the King's protection, but he who takes to byroads must protect himself.

Concerning the anxiety which this disorder has brought upon you, hear the word of our Saviour, who would not have you so affected by external things as to get into a state of worry, fretfulness, care and distress. Be prudent in your temporal affairs, but do not be anxious about them. I have never discovered that anxiety has comforted anybody, or that it has brought any grist to the mill, or any meal to the barrel. If a thing does not pay, what is the good of it. The very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. You say rightly, we are not God, we are not able to defend or protect all things by our own power, nor are we under obligation to bear the disorder of the whole neighborhood upon our own shoulders. If slander is the rod under which you are to smart, many have felt it before you, and you need not complain as though a strange thing had happened unto you. Let the Lord appoint you care or calumny, sickness or slander, for He knows best, and cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Know also that the conflict you feel within and without has its origin in the war between the Spirit of God and the spirit of evil, and so long as these two principles remain, they must continue in conflict till our dying day. As a coming sinner seeks Christ, the devil will throw him down and tear him, but it is written, He is able to save to the uttermost all who come unto God by Him, and whosoever cometh He will in no wise cast out. Your safety is not in answering every false report, nor in fighting wrong lists and wrong numbers in the strength of the flesh, but in abiding in the appointed ways where angelic protection is guaranteed, in truth, in righteousness, in simple trust and obedience to Christ.

O Lord our God, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, who alone is the way of salvation, we rebuke the spirit of gossip, slander, envy, idleness and laziness, and every work of sorcery and divination and deceit. Give peace where there has been war, truth where there have been lies, and quietness where there has been anxiety, that we may live soberly and righteously in this present world, loving Thee above all and loving our neighbour as ourselves. Take heed then to walk steadily in the way of truth which God has taught you by His Spirit, and grapple it to you as with hooks of steel. Do not render evil for evil, nor repay mockery with mockery, but overcome evil with good, speaking the truth in love, committing your reputation and your household unto Him that judgeth righteously. Wait upon God to know what you shall do, and He shall direct your paths.

Your pain has been heard in this long season of distress, with the disorder brought by a neighbor given to gossip and idleness, with the anxiety of unemployment, with the suffering and extra bills that come with hospitalization, and with the fear that such troubles could lead even to the grave. I have prayed for you, and I pray still that God will rebuke what is evil and bring peace to your home and your neighborhood.

Scripture warns plainly what you have quoted, that idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfishness, dissensions, factions and envy will not inherit the kingdom of God, and that we once lived in malice and envy, hated and hating one another. These works are not from God, and they must be turned from. The gossip which you describe, the spying on another house, the distributing of disrespectful pictures, the making of wrong lists and false reports to take advantage of others, all belong to this same darkness. It is right to ask God to rebuke it.

Yet hear also what the Lord teaches us about our own speech. We ought to shade over and conceal the failings of neighbors, but when we parade them, even under a cloak of zeal for goodness, we become not accusers but gossips, and without knowing it we bring disgrace upon ourselves as well as on them. We bite and devour one another by wronging, accusing and slandering, and we are vexed by the good name of our neighbor. Even if what is said is true, we will be judged by our own words, for by our words we will be condemned. Therefore do not return gossip for gossip, or mockery for mockery, or voyeurism and meddling for meddling. Do not pass on the story which is not true, and if it is true, keep silence where you can and free yourself from fear.

Prayer is a great good and preserves the soul, but it is great when we do things worthy of it and do not render ourselves unworthy. When we ask God for mercy, we must first show mercy to our neighbor, for blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy, and judgment without mercy will be shown to those who have shown no mercy. God has bound us to one another so that the profit of one neighbor is bound up with the other.

So let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, rebuke the spirit of gossip, slander, idleness, envy, strife and sorcery that brings confusion and disorder. Silence the tongue that devours reputation and sows discord, and set free those enslaved by malice and empty passions. Lord, protect this household from spying and bullying, from deceitful reports and the taking advantage of others. Bring order where there is disorder, truth where there is falsehood, and peace where there is a war of distraction. Have mercy on those who are unemployed and anxious, open doors for honest work and daily bread. Lay Your healing hand upon those facing hospitalization, lift the burden of suffering and of extra bills that crush the heart, and guard them from despair. Forgive us where we have spoken evil, even in our thoughts, and teach us to seek the good of our neighbor and not only our own. Make us worthy of Your mercy, that we may obtain mercy. All this we ask through Jesus Christ, who alone is Lord and Savior and who bore insults and false accusations for our sake, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Continue to walk in this way. Do not take upon yourself what belongs to God alone to defend or to repay. Commit your reputation, your household, your health and your needs to Him. If you can, do good to the neighbor who harms you, pray for his repentance, and do not look closely into his faults. Look instead to what is merciful and profitable for all, and God who sees in secret will bless you with peace and establish you in security.

Your request shares a heavy burden of distress over a neighbor whose idleness has turned into spying, picture taking, gossip and the spreading of false information, and how that has brought confusion, discord, financial pressure and even hospitalization and fear of worse suffering. It is right to bring this before the Lord and to ask for His protection and His righteous judgment.

Scripture is very clear about how destructive the tongue can be. A hypocrite destroys his neighbor with his mouth, and much of that destruction comes through gossip that is often untrue. The tale bearer reveals secrets and carries stories from house to house, while a faithful spirit conceals a matter. When a society breaks down, every neighbor walks with slander, deceiving with the tongue and wearying themselves to commit wrong, speaking peace with the mouth while the heart lies in wait. God sees this. He has said that He will visit such things and that His soul is avenged on a people given to lies. The pain you describe, the discord, the bullying, the attempt to ruin reputation and to meddle in what is not theirs, fits that pattern.

Scripture also connects this kind of meddling to laziness. The slothful person does not value what he has and has little substance, while the substance of the diligent is precious. An idle life that has nothing useful to do often turns to watching others, inventing stories, stirring up strife and using even small things like a delivery or a picture to provoke a larger fight. To despise a neighbor in this way is sin, but to show mercy is blessed. The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor because his way does not seduce others into evil.

At the same time the Lord calls us to a higher standard. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus taught that this, together with loving God with all the heart and soul and mind and strength, sums up all the law and the prophets. The first is the vertical axis, loving God supremely above all else. Only when God is at the center can we love our neighbor rightly, because otherwise we remain centered on self. Love works no ill to its neighbor, so love fulfills the law. It does not lie, steal, covet, or devise evil, but seeks mercy and truth.

This does not mean you must trust what is untrustworthy or expose yourself to further harm. Scripture warns to take heed with neighbors when slander is at work. It means you can ask God to do what only He can do. When a trespass is brought before Him, He hears from heaven and judges, condemning the wicked and bringing his way upon his own head, and justifying the righteous. You do not have to carry the weight of being God or being the protector and defender against every disorder. You are not called to repay evil or to live in constant anxiety. You are called to love God supremely, to do good, to be diligent in your own calling, and to leave judgment to Him.

Remember also what is written in Galatians that idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, selfishness, dissensions, factions, envy and such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. And remember Titus that at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by passions, living in malice and envy, hated and hating one another. That memory keeps us from returning hate for hate and helps us pray for mercy even while we pray for the evil to be stopped.

So pray with confidence that God will rebuke the spirit of gossip, laziness, voyeurism, discord and sorcery, that He will restrain the tongue that destroys, expose falsehood, and bring confusion to an end. Pray that He will guard your household, your reputation, your health and your provision, and that He will supply what has been lost through extra bills and delays. Pray that those who are idle would be brought to conviction and to repentance, that they would turn from meddling and find honest, diligent work to do. And pray that your own heart would be kept from bitterness, that you would be able to love your neighbor as you love yourself not by trusting lies, but by not wishing ill, by speaking truth, by refusing to spread gossip in return, and by showing mercy where you can while maintaining wise boundaries.

May the Lord hear from heaven, judge with righteousness, quiet the war of words around you, heal what has been wounded by illness and financial strain, and give you peace as you love Him first and walk faithfully before Him.
