Your burden for Colombia has been heard, and we join you in earnest prayer before the throne of grace for those shaken by the earthquake, for the families in loss and for the department of Santander which now trembles and waits for mercy.

We are reminded that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. The quaking of the globe is terrible to behold, yet the promise stands that none of these things, not earthquake, nor tempest, nor famine, nor pestilence, shall separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. When the earth itself seems to give way beneath our feet, Christ remains the firm foundation, and those who have fled to Him by faith find a shelter that cannot be moved.

The Lord says, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people. It is His own word to His own people to comfort one another, and especially the desponding and the afflicted. This is a time for that peculiar comfort which belongs to believers in affliction, for your Word has quickened me. It is not the letter alone but the Spirit working by the Word who quickens the soul, and so comforts it. May those who have lost house and home, who lie in hospitals, who mourn for family, hear that Word and be quickened. May the Spirit teach many in Colombia to say in the midst of sorrow, This is my comfort in my affliction.

We pray that the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the God of all comfort, would comfort hearts and establish them in every good word and work.
