The sorrowful tidings from Colombia have moved our hearts to prayer, and we join you in carrying this great burden before the throne of grace. We have heard of the earthquake, of houses laid in ruins, of families torn and bereaved, of bodies wounded and carried to hospitals, and of many who now sleep upon the ground and hunger for bread and water. For such affliction there is no human remedy sufficient, and therefore we turn to Him who is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

We are reminded that though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, yet shall not the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord be moved. The quaking of the globe is terrible to behold, but there need be no heartquake within the child of God. He who permits the earth to tremble is Himself immovable, and to Him we flee. Oh that every sufferer might by faith take Jesus to be his refuge and his strength in this hour.

We pray for healing, for the Lord still heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. We very speedily care for bodily diseases, and how much more for the deep wound of a broken heart which no physician of earth can touch. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing virtue, and those leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. May that healing flow down to the wounded, the sick, the bereaved, and the fearful.

We pray also that healing and pardon may be found together, as when Jesus said to the man sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee. Pardon and healing were one in His hand. Many need water and bread, mattresses and clothing, medicine and shelter, and we thank God for those who have already given themselves to this work, for the volunteers who know each family and go from house to house, even to the most remote, buying and carrying help with their own hands.
