Need affordable housing

It’s hard to read what you’ve been going through without feeling the weight of it. Long seasons of waiting for something as basic as safe housing, while being treated with contempt by the very person who holds so much control over your daily life, can drain every ounce of hope. When someone screams that you don’t deserve a decent place, that you should just be grateful for a roof because you’re desperate, that is a cruelty that cuts deep. It’s the kind of distress that makes you feel like an enemy is lying in wait, ready to pounce every time you dare to ask for what’s right.

In times like these, the Bible keeps bringing us back to a practice that feels slow but has always been the way God leads His people through the wilderness: wait upon Him. Not a passive giving up, but a deliberate setting of your heart to seek His face. When Ezra faced a perilous journey across miles of desolate land, he didn’t send scouts ahead or rely on his own cleverness. He called a fast. They humbled themselves and asked God for step-by-step instruction, for safe passage, for deliverance from those who would harm them. That’s a wise pattern. Before you make another move, before the next confrontation with the landlord or the next visit from an inspector, take the time, even long stretches of time, to fast and pray, asking for clear guidance. Let this season become a place of worship, not just a holding cell.

It’s easy to look around and wonder why those who take advantage of others seem to get away with it. The landlord’s threats, the neglect, the mocking, it can make you question where God is. The psalmist felt that same confusion, almost stumbling when he saw the wicked prosper. But then he entered God’s presence and saw their end. The man who feels he can trample on the poor because they have no choice is storing up judgment for himself. That doesn’t erase the pain you’re living with right now, but it frees you from having to carry around a desire for payback. God sees. He will settle every account in His time. Your part is to refuse to let bitterness take root and to keep your hands clean.

Meanwhile, the Lord is your confidence. He sustains and keeps those who lean on Him. There are times you brace yourself, waiting for the smash, holding your breath, and then the smash doesn’t come. God steps between you and what you feared. He’ll do that in ways you can’t predict. Through a conversation, a delay, a surprising provision. He delivered His people from those who lay in wait along the road, and He can deliver you from this oppressive situation.

So while you continue to look for housing, let your waiting become a daily turning toward God. Ask Him for wisdom about what to accept, what to resist, when to speak, and when to be quiet. And don’t wait alone. Let other believers come around you, like Aaron and Hur holding up Moses’ hands when he grew tired. Share the burden. Let them pray with you and for you. You aren’t invisible, and you aren’t forgotten, not by the One who gave His own Son to secure your eternal home. That solid hope is your anchor even when the temporary roof overhead feels like it’s caving in.

We are so grateful you shared your heavy burden with us and allowed us to stand beside you in prayer these past days. Our hearts have been united with yours as we lifted up your urgent need for safe, affordable housing and asked the Lord to move the waiting list in your favor. We have also prayed that He would shield you from further mistreatment, comfort you in the midst of mold and flood damage, and silence every unjust word spoken over you.

If the Lord has opened a door to decent housing since you posted, please share a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If the wait continues and the landlord’s behavior remains unchanged, we invite you to post your request again so we may keep storming heaven on your behalf. No one should have to endure such indignity, and we refuse to grow weary in asking God to intervene.

May He surround you with His peace, provide for every practical need, and remind you daily that your worth is not measured by a landlord’s cruelty but by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. We continue to pray in His name.
