We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up the leaders of nations and the world before our Almighty God. The Scripture declares, "The kingโs heart is in Yahwehโs hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires" (Proverbs 21:1). We recognize that all authority is established by God (Romans 13:1), and we are called to intercede for those in power, that they may govern with wisdom, justice, and righteousness.
First, we must address the foundation of all our prayers, salvation through Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which men must be saved (Acts 4:12). We pray that every leader, whether in our nation or abroad, would come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Romans 10:1 reminds us, "Brothers, my heartโs desire and my prayer to God is for Israel, that they may be saved." This same longing must extend to all leaders, that they may turn from sin and be reconciled to God through Christ. Without this, their decisions will never fully align with Godโs perfect will.
We lift up the people of the land referenced in Daniel 11:41, asking for Godโs protection and deliverance. The Scripture warns of times when many will fall, but we trust in the Lordโs sovereignty. "The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower" (Psalm 18:2). We pray that God would shield His people from harm and raise up leaders who fear Him.
For those in authority, we ask for divine wisdom. "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him" (James 1:5). May leaders seek Godโs counsel rather than relying on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). We pray that they would govern with integrity, humility, and a heart for justice, as Proverbs 29:2 declares, "When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan."
We also intercede for the protection of leaders, their families, and those who serve in the military. Psalm 91:11 assures us, "For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways." We ask that God would surround them with His hedge of protection, shielding them from physical harm, spiritual attacks, and the schemes of the enemy.
Yet we must also rebuke any ungodliness in leadership. When leaders promote policies that defy Godโs Word, whether through the shedding of innocent blood, the perversion of marriage and family, or the suppression of truth, we must stand firm on Scripture. "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people" (Proverbs 14:34). We pray that God would raise up godly leaders and remove those who persist in wickedness, for "when the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous thrive" (Proverbs 28:28).
We join our voices with the saints in heaven, declaring, "We give you thanks, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who was; because you have taken your great power and reigned" (Revelation 11:17). The Lord God Omnipotent reigns (Revelation 19:6), and we trust in His ultimate victory. We pray that His kingdom would come and His will would be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).
Heavenly Father, we offer petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for all in authority, as 1 Timothy 2:1-2 instructs us. We ask that You would save the worst, bless the best, and guide them all according to Your perfect will. We pray for peace in the land, that Your people may live quiet and godly lives (1 Timothy 2:2). May Your name be glorified in every nation, and may Your salvation reach the ends of the earth (Psalm 67:2).
We lift up the people of [], asking for Your mercy and protection. May they turn to You in repentance and faith, finding refuge in Christ alone. We pray for the service members, that they would be strengthened by Your Spirit and protected from harm. For the families of leaders and all who serve, we ask for Your grace to sustain them.
Lord, we acknowledge that You set up kings and remove them (Daniel 2:21). We trust in Your sovereignty and ask that You would raise up leaders who honor You. May Your church be a light in the darkness, proclaiming the gospel and standing for truth. We pray for revival in the hearts of leaders and nations, that many would come to know You as Savior and Lord.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
