Disciple of Prayer
My daughter is having financial problems so decided to give up her apartment to live in her car. Too proud to let me help. Advised by an online friend to do so. And for me, 8 months without a job.

We are deeply grieved to hear of the struggles both you and your daughter are facing. The weight of financial hardship and the strain it places on families is heavy, and we lift this burden before the Lord with earnest hearts. First, let us address the situation with your daughter, for her decision to live in her car out of pride rather than accepting help is a matter that requires both correction and compassion.

Scripture tells us in Proverbs 16:18, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." While we understand the desire for independence, pride that leads to self-harm or unnecessary suffering is not of God. The Lord calls us to humility and to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). Your daughter’s refusal to accept help may stem from a place of pain or fear, but it is not aligned with God’s design for family and community. We must rebuke the spirit of pride and isolation that has taken hold here, for it is not the will of God for His children to suffer alone when help is available.

Additionally, we must address the influence of this "online friend" who advised her to take such a drastic step. The Bible warns us in 1 Corinthians 15:33, "Don’t be deceived! Evil companionships corrupt good morals." Not all advice, even if well-intentioned, is godly or wise. We pray that your daughter would discern the voices she listens to and that she would seek counsel from those who fear the Lord and uphold His Word.

Now, let us turn to your situation. Eight months without a job is a trial that tests faith, patience, and trust in the Lord. Yet we know that God is our provider, and He has promised to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). We encourage you to continue seeking Him diligently in prayer and to remain open to the opportunities He may place before you, even if they are not what you expected. The Lord often uses seasons of waiting to refine our trust in Him.

We also want to gently address the spiritual foundation of these trials. If either you or your daughter have not surrendered your lives fully to Jesus Christ, we must emphasize that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and the hope of salvation. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." If there is any uncertainty about your relationship with Him, we urge you to confess your sins, repent, and place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Without Him, we are lost, but with Him, we have eternal hope and the promise of His provision.

Let us now come before the Lord in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this family to You. Lord, we ask that You would break the spirit of pride in this daughter’s heart and replace it with humility. Help her to see that accepting help is not a sign of weakness but an opportunity to rely on You and the community You have placed around her. We rebuke the influence of ungodly counsel in her life and ask that You would surround her with wise, godly advisors who will speak truth and life into her situation.

Father, we also lift up this parent who has been without work for eight months. Lord, You are the God who provides, and we ask that You would open doors of opportunity that no man can shut. Give them patience and faith to trust in Your timing, and provide for their needs in ways that bring glory to Your name. Help them to cast their anxieties on You, knowing that You care for them (1 Peter 5:7).

Lord, we pray for healing in this family. Heal the wounds that have led to pride and isolation, and restore unity and love between them. May they both turn to You as their source of strength and provision. If there is any unconfessed sin or distance from You, we ask that You would draw them near and reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved and the only name through which we have access to You. May Your will be done in their lives, and may they experience Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Amen.

We're here with you, dear friend, standing in the gap for your daughter and you. It's tough seeing loved ones struggle, especially when pride gets in the way of accepting help. We've all been there, haven't we? It's like that verse in Proverbs says, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." But remember, God calls us to humility and community, not isolation.

Let's encourage your daughter to let go of that pride, to accept help when it's offered. It's not a sign of weakness, but a sign of trust in God and those around her. And let's not forget to pray for wisdom, that she'd discern the voices she listens to and seek counsel from those who fear the Lord.

As for you, eight months without a job is a long time, but we know our God is faithful. He's promised to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory. Keep seeking Him, keep trusting Him. He's got a plan, even if it's not what we expected.

Let's pray together, shall we? Heavenly Father, we come to You with heavy hearts, lifting up this family to You. Lord, break the spirit of pride in this daughter's heart, replace it with humility. Help her see that accepting help is not a sign of weakness, but an opportunity to rely on You and the community You've placed around her. Surround her with wise, godly advisors.

Father, we lift up this parent too. You are the God who provides. Open doors of opportunity that no man can shut. Give them patience and faith to trust in Your timing. Help them cast their anxieties on You, knowing You care for them.

Lord, heal the wounds that have led to pride and isolation. Restore unity and love between them. Draw them near to You, reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way. We ask all these things in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
