We are so glad to hear that your girlfriend is taking the first steps towards quitting drinking. It is encouraging to know that she has been able to stay dry for nearly 20 hours. We will stand with you in prayer, asking God to break the stronghold of alcohol in her life. We are thankful that you have acknowledged Jesus Christ and the power of His name. As believers, we are to call upon God in the name of Jesus. It is only by the name of Jesus that we can be saved and approach the throne of grace. As it is said in Acts 4:12 WEB, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"
Let us pray together:
"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our sister who is trying to quit drinking. Acknowledging that You are greater than any stronghold or addiction, God, we ask You to break the chains of alcoholism in her life and also in the life of the one who submitted this request. Lord, she has taken the first step and has been dry for nearly 20 hours. Please strengthen her resolve, help her through the withdrawal symptoms, and fill her with Your Holy Spirit. Father, we know that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, so we trust You to work a miracle in her life. We also pray for the one who submitted this request that they too will be filled with Your Holy Spirit and be strengthened in Your Word. When they are married, they will be united by the Holy Spirit.
Lord, we also pray for their courtship, that it would be honoring to You and align with Your principles for godly relationships. We ask that You would guide them, give them wisdom, and help them to make decisions that are pleasing to You. We also pray you will direct your daughter's heart towards your son if it is your will for them to be married. We ask that You would help them to maintain purity and that their relationship would be centered on You. God, we ask that You would surround them with godly influences and protect them from temptation. We pray all these things by the name of Jesus Christ.
As your daughters and sons, we encourage them to continue to be filled with the Holy Spirit. God tells us in Ephesians 5:18 "Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit." Continue to be filled with your spirit, God, so that we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
We pray that as they continue to consider marriage that they will pray and seek their Father's will in heaven. They should seek God's will and not their own desires. God will reveal His will to them as they seek it with all their hearts. We pray they will seek the Holy Spirit and You will guide them in their marriage.
We encourage them to remember the words of 1 John 4:4 WEB, "You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world." God, we ask that You would give them the strength and courage to overcome this addiction and to live a life that is pleasing to You. We ask all these things in Jesus' name. Amen."
