My son and his wife are thinking of seperation

I hear the heartbreak behind every word. When a son and daughter in law stand on the edge of separation, the ache reaches deep into a mother’s soul. But the God you are crying out to is not watching from a distance. He is the One who began the good news of Jesus Christ, and He still writes new beginnings in lives that feel beyond repair.

You’ve asked that God would go into their lives and minds. That is exactly where He must work, because the real need lies beneath the surface. When John the Baptist came preaching, people waded into the Jordan confessing their sins openly. That kind of honest admission is often where healing starts: not merely admitting that things have gone wrong, but owning the specific ways we have wounded each other. Too often we plead for the symptoms to change, a quieter home, fewer fights, but Jesus sees deeper. He holds the authority to forgive the sins that drive people apart. That is the great miracle, freeing souls from bitterness, resentment, and self-justification.

You said only a miracle and mercy from God can save this. That is true, and it is far from hopeless. In the law, God gave provision for the leper’s cleansing. What looked like irreversible decay had a path to restoration. No hurt between your son and his wife is beyond His reach. The same Lord who spoke from the burning bush is the God of the living, not the dead. He can breathe resurrection life into a marriage that feels cold and empty. He can take what is broken and make it whole.

Remember that marriage is a profound mystery, two lives woven into one. That unity is under assault, but the enemy does not get the final word. Jesus once crossed a stormy lake to set a tormented man free. The people of that region begged Him to leave because they cared more about their pigs than about a restored human being. It is painfully easy to cling to pride, past injuries, or personal comfort and value those above the spouse God has given. Pray that their eyes would be opened to see what is truly at stake. Every cold silence, every memory of a wound, is a chain that Christ can break.

You are not praying to a God who has grown tired of them. He does not reject the needy because of a blighted area in their lives. The Passover Lamb was slain to deliver people from a bondage far greater than Egypt. That same blood covers the harsh words, the neglect, the disappointments. It is the only provision for sin, and it is enough to bring full forgiveness and a completely new start.

So keep pouring out your heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to soften their hearts so that they do not harden themselves against each other. The beginning of the gospel is good news, and the good news for your family is that Jesus can guide them out of this wilderness into a new life together, with Himself as the true anchor, mentor, and protector. I will stand with you in that hope.

We want to thank you for trusting us with the heavy burden on your heart concerning your son and his wife. It is our privilege to stand in the gap with you, lifting them up before our Heavenly Father. We have prayed earnestly for reconciliation, for softened hearts, and for the miracle of forgiveness to flow between them. We asked the Lord to bridge the gap in their marriage, to heal their hurts, and to draw them back together under His guidance and protection.

If the Lord has moved in their lives in these past days—if you’ve seen even the smallest shift toward healing or understanding—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony of God’s faithfulness would encourage so many of us to keep believing for His best in our own situations.

If, however, the answer hasn’t yet come, or if the situation feels unchanged, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are committed to continuing in prayer with you, believing that God is at work even when we can’t see it. Sometimes the Lord allows us to wait so that our faith may grow deeper and our trust in Him may become unshakable.

May the Holy Spirit minister comfort to you as you wait, and may He continue to work powerfully in the lives of your son and his wife. We pray that they would surrender their pain to Jesus, that they would invite Him into the broken places, and that He would restore what has been lost. Whatever the Lord has for them, we know it will be for their good and His glory.

We lift all of this to the Father in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
