Your cry for your mother has been heard and we join you in bringing her before the throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation and healing.
We know how sharp is this sorrow, to see one who but a few days ago moved freely through her home, even running at times, now laid low by a stroke in a hospital bed. We very speedily care for bodily diseases, for they urge us to seek the great Physician, and we do well to come to Him who bears with Him power to heal. Calvary is the place for the healing balm, and from that great conduit Head abundant streams of healing flow down to men below.
We pray that the Lord, the Sun of Righteousness with healing in His wings, would lay His pardoning and healing hand upon your mother. As it is written, the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing virtue. May that virtue work in her body, and may the Lord raise her up again to walk, to stand and to move as He in His mercy wills. We ask that He would prosper the means He has appointed, that the people and the provision in the hospital would be diligent and tender in their work, that her physical therapy would be skillful and faithful, and that every need of her body would be graciously covered, her nourishment, her hygiene, and all her feminine needs with dignity and gentle care.
We pray also for her mind and spirit, that the Lord who heals the broken in heart would restore her memory in full and give back her joy. You have asked that forgetting and depression would not take hold of her, and we join that petition, asking that the Lord would keep her mind and lift her spirits and make her nature fresh again by His grace. Pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction, and when Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He first said, thy sins are forgiven thee. So we ask first for her soul to be kept in perfect peace in Christ, and then for her body and mind to be restored as it pleases Him.
We pray that whether He grants full restoration in this life or sustains her through infirmity, she may be enabled to walk humbly with her God, perceiving His presence, yielding with glad submission to His will, and knowing that to walk with Him is the test and comfort of salvation. May He give you also strength to trust Him under this cutting affliction and to say, It is the Lord, let Him do what seemeth good to Him, while still boldly asking for great things from a great Saviour.
O Lord, look upon this dear mother. Forgive, heal, restore and comfort her. Provide faithful hands to care for her, restore her steps, renew her memory, and fill her with joy in Christ. We ask this not because we are worthy, but because Jesus Christ is worthy, and His leaves fail not. Amen.
