Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and allowing us to pray with you for your little sister. We are lifting her up before the Lord even now, asking for His healing touch, His comfort and His strength to surround her, and for wisdom and care for the medical team who are attending to her.
In times like this when a loved one is so sick and in the hospital, we experience how much we need the consolation that is in Christ and the comfort of His love and the fellowship of His Spirit. He is the God of all comfort, and He draws near and stands by His people in the darkest hours, to strengthen and encourage and uphold them. We are praying that you and your sister and your whole family will know that nearness in a very real way in these days.
We pray for healing because we know the Lord is merciful and able to heal. The Scriptures show us Jesus healing those who were sick and afflicted, and that He bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. We have the example of one who was sick and near death and God had mercy on him, and we have the promise in James that if there are any sick among us they should call for the elders of the church to pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick. It is a good and biblical thing to ask the elders to pray, and we encourage you to do that as you are able.
At the same time we come to God with humility, knowing that healing is a sovereign work of God in His hands. His ways are not our ways and are beyond our finding out. The Bible does not teach that everyone is healed in this life, and we see that even the apostle Paul prayed earnestly for his own affliction and the Lord chose not to remove it. It would be wrong to put guilt or burden on the one who is sick or on those who love them, as if faith or prayer were not enough. We simply bring our requests to a loving and sovereign Father and trust His mercy and wisdom.
So we pray with confidence and with submission to His will. We ask that the Lord would touch your sister's body and bring healing according to His will, that He would give her comfort and peace, and that He would give you and your family strength beyond your own strength. The Lord gives strength to His people, and when we look to Him in His greatness and power, we can find rest in His care even while we wait.
We are praying that whatever your need is, you will find Him to be your healer, your comfort and your strength, and that His presence will be evident to your sister, to you and to those caring for her.
Lord, we lift this precious little sister to You. Lay Your hand upon her and bring healing as it pleases You. Comfort her and give her strength, comfort her family, and give wisdom, skill and compassion to the doctors and nurses who care for her. Let Your mercy be known and Your peace guard every heart, in the name of Jesus, amen.
