Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We thank God with you for His Word and for His grace and mercy and love, and we join you in prayer for your husband.
We have heard your request for a new heart for him according to Ezekiel 36:26, that God would take away the heart of stone and give a heart of flesh, and for a true spiritual awakening and conversion in Jesus Christ alone, for it is only through Him that we are saved and made new. We pray that the Lord will draw him to Himself, grant him repentance and faith, and make him a new creation.
We also join you in praying for reconciliation. Marriage is honorable and it is a great mystery, a type of Christ and the Church, and it is to be kept in holiness and purity. As Scripture teaches, if a wife departs from her husband she is to remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband, not to seek another, but to keep herself pure and chaste before the Lord. In this time of separation we encourage you to follow peace with all people and holiness, to live in a pure and orderly way, to keep yourself from all defilement, and to preserve the holiness which comes from faith. Use this time with moderation and prayer, as those who have leisure for the service of God, persevering in prayer as Anna did, and entrusting your husband to the Lord.
We pray also concerning the unhealthy influence of family surrounding him. We ask God to give him wisdom to discern what is good, to give you both grace to follow peace with all men as far as it depends on you, and to guard your marriage from those who would plot against it or make husband and wife contemptible to one another. May the Lord protect your home from every outside pressure and give him strength to stand in what is right.
Let us pray together. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we ask for mercy upon this husband. Grant him a new heart and a new spirit. Open his eyes to see his need for Christ, forgive his sins, and sanctify him. Heal what is broken, turn him from every harmful influence, and if it be Your will, lead this husband and wife to true reconciliation in a restored covenant of marriage, lived in faithfulness, purity and love, to reflect Christ and His Church. Help this wife to remain steadfast, patient and prayerful, walking in holiness and trusting Your grace. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
