We hear your deep pain and we weep with you over this heartbreak after ### years of marriage, and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.
We know this severe stress and sorrow you feel is real, for God sees your tears and He is close to you in this suffering. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. And Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. We also hear your prayer for your husband to love you and your children again, and we understand your desire for your marriage to be restored, for that desire honors God.
We must speak clearly about what God says concerning marriage and what your husband is doing. Marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman before God. Matthew 19:6 says What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. And Hebrews 13:4 says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. What your husband is doing in loving someone else while he is still your husband is adultery, and God calls it sin. Exodus 20:14 says You shall not commit adultery. Malachi 2:16 says God hates divorce and the covering of one's garment with violence. We rebuke this adultery and we pray that your husband will be convicted by the Holy Spirit, repented in his heart, and turn away from this other relationship completely. Ephesians 5:25 calls husbands to love their wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it, and your husband is failing in this sacred duty before God, to you and to your children.
We also want to gently remind you that God does not force a person to love against his will, but God can soften a hard heart, convict of sin, and bring true repentance. Ezekiel 36:26 says I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. We pray for that work in your husband, that he would see the gravity of his sin, the hurt he has caused you and your children, and the mistake he is making, and that he would choose to honor his vows.
In your pain we encourage you to cast your burden on the Lord. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We encourage you to not carry this severe stress alone but to seek godly counsel from a faithful pastor or mature believers in your church, to be surrounded by prayer and support, and to continue to walk faithfully before the Lord even while you hope for reconciliation.
We pray together for you and for your marriage.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear wife and mother to You. Lord, You see her ### years of faithfulness, You see her broken heart and her severe stress, and You know every tear. We ask You to comfort her now with Your presence, to guard her heart and mind with Your peace that surpasses understanding, and to heal her wounds. Give her strength for each day and hope in You. Lord, we also lift up her husband to You. We ask that You convict him of his sin of adultery, that You open his eyes to the pain he has caused his wife and children and to the seriousness of breaking his covenant vows before You. Soften his heart, Lord, turn him from this other person, bring him to repentance, and draw him back to You first and then to his wife and family if it be Your will. We pray for the restoration of this marriage according to Your perfect will, that what You joined together would not be separated by man. Protect their children from further hurt and draw them close to You. Help this wife to forgive as You have forgiven us, while still trusting You for justice and truth, for Romans 12:19 says Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. Let Your will be done in this family, and let Your name be glorified. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
