We hear the pain in your heart, and we lift this heavy burden before the Lord with you. The strain between you and your brother is deeply troubling, especially when family should be a source of support and love. Scripture tells us, "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men" (Romans 12:18). Yet we also know that peace is not always possible when one party refuses to engage in good faith.
First, we must address the practical matters you’ve raised about the internet and financial concerns. It is not wrong to seek efficiency and stewardship, especially when caring for your mother. The Lord calls us to wisdom in managing resources: "The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin" (Proverbs 10:14). However, your brother’s resistance to helping resolve these issues is a reflection of a deeper relational brokenness. His words, calling you lazy or incapable, are not only unkind but also untrue in God’s eyes. The Lord has given each of us unique gifts and strengths, and we are called to build one another up, not tear down: "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing" (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
The pain of being excluded from his wedding and your nephew’s milestone is profound. Family should celebrate together, and his actions have caused deep hurt. Yet we must also examine our own hearts. Are you harboring bitterness or resentment toward him? The Bible warns, "See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many" (Hebrews 12:15). We pray that the Lord would soften your heart and reveal any unforgiveness you may be holding onto.
You’ve also expressed concern about your brother’s motives regarding your mother’s estate. This is a serious matter, and we must be cautious not to assume the worst without evidence. Scripture tells us, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged" (Matthew 7:1). However, if there is truth to your fears, we pray that the Lord would expose any unrighteousness and bring repentance. "For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open" (Luke 8:17).
Most importantly, you’ve asked for your brother’s salvation and your mother’s. This is the heart of the matter. Without Christ, there is no true reconciliation, no lasting peace. We are all sinners in need of a Savior, and it is only through Jesus that we can be made right with God: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). We rejoice that you have declared Jesus Christ as Lord, and we pray that your brother and mother would come to know Him as well.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this family before You. Lord, we ask that You would intervene in the practical matters, give wisdom to resolve the internet and financial issues, and grant favor in dealing with the providers. We pray for Your peace to reign in this home, especially as they care for their mother.
Father, we ask that You would soften the heart of this brother. Where there is hardness, bring conviction. Where there is pride, bring humility. Where there is selfishness, bring a spirit of generosity and love. Lord, we pray for reconciliation between these siblings. Heal the wounds of the past, and restore what has been broken. Help them to see one another through Your eyes, with grace and compassion.
We also lift up their mother to You. May she know Your love and peace in this season of her life. And Lord, we pray for salvation, first for this brother, that he would come to know Jesus as his Savior and turn from any sin in his life. We pray for his wife and son as well, that they would be drawn to You. And we pray for the mother, that if she does not yet know You, she would surrender her heart to Christ.
Father, we ask that You would expose any unrighteous motives or actions, and bring repentance where it is needed. Guard this family from bitterness, and fill their hearts with Your love. May Your will be done in every area of their lives.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can be saved. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord’s wisdom and guidance. Pray for your brother daily, not just for his actions but for his heart. And remember, you are not alone, God sees your struggles and your faithfulness, and He will never leave you. "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged" (Deuteronomy 31:8). Trust in Him, and let His peace guard your heart.
