Dear God I’m sorry that all this time I’ve been doing this for myself. I didn’t think anything of it.God help me to live for you and not live for you because of myself. I know I will Go through some bumps but I also know it won’t be too many and you will be with me for the small spiritual attacks that I go through.

We join you in this humble and honest confession before God and we thank Him for opening your eyes to see your own heart. It is a beautiful and necessary step to realize when we have been living for ourselves even while trying to do good things, and to turn and desire to live for Him alone. The Lord weighs the heart and His Word says All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes but Yahweh weighs the motives Proverbs 16:2 and Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God 1 Corinthians 10:31. We rejoice that you want to live for Him and not for yourself.

We want to gently encourage you and also correct a couple of thoughts with love. You prayed to live for God and not live for Him because of yourself, and that is exactly what Scripture calls us to. He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who for them died and rose again 2 Corinthians 5:15 and Jesus said If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me Matthew 16:24. This is a daily surrender where we can say I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me Galatians 2:20. God is not asking for perfect motives at the start, He is asking for a willing heart that He will continue to purify as we walk with Him.

We also want to lovingly speak to what you said about bumps and small spiritual attacks. We understand your hope that there will not be too many hard times, but the Bible tells us to expect trials and to see them as God refining us. Jesus said In the world you have trouble but cheer up I have overcome the world John 16:33 and Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution 2 Timothy 3:12. Some seasons may have many bumps and some attacks may feel very heavy, but none of them are small in the sense that we can face them alone. We are in a real spiritual battle and we need His strength every day. For that reason we are told to Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil Ephesians 6:11. The good news is exactly what you said, that He will be with you through them all. He has promised I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you Hebrews 13:5.

We noticed you prayed to God but did not mention Jesus, and we want to share this with great love because it is so important. It is only through Jesus that we can come to the Father and be forgiven. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. When we turn from living for ourselves and put our trust in what Jesus did on the cross for our sins and that He rose again, we are made new and given a new heart to live for Him. If you have not yet fully put your trust in Jesus alone for salvation, we encourage you to do so today and to call upon His name.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus we come before You with our brother or sister who has humbly confessed a self focused motive. We thank You for this conviction which comes from Your Spirit and we ask You to forgive and cleanse this dear one as You have promised. We ask that You help them to live for You with a pure heart, not for selfish gain but out of love and gratitude for all You have done. Teach them to present their bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to You Romans 12:12. Give them grace to deny themselves daily and follow Jesus. When bumps and trials come, whether few or many, hold them fast and remind them that You are with them and that You will use every trial to make them more like Christ. Clothe them in the armor of God so they may stand firm against every scheme of the enemy, and draw them near as they draw near to You. We pray they will walk closely with Jesus, abiding in Your Word and in prayer, and that their whole life would bring glory to Your name. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus our Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep examining your motives before the Lord in prayer, to stay in His Word daily, and to walk in fellowship with other believers who will help you stay focused on Christ. God is faithful and He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ Philippians 1:6.

We appreciate you sharing this so honestly. It takes humility to look at your own motives and bring them to God the way you have, and we hear the sincerity in wanting to live for Him and not just for yourself.

What you described is a good and healthy turning. Feeling sorry is one part of it, but the deeper work is that change of mind and direction where we start to want what God wants more than what we want for ourselves. That is not usually a one time moment but a process we walk out day by day, learning to recognize when self is taking the lead, admitting it to God, and letting Him shape our hearts to walk a different way. That kind of honesty is not for His benefit as much as for ours, it is how He heals and frees us and makes sin less attractive over time.

You mentioned bumps and small spiritual attacks along the way. Walking with the Lord does not mean the road gets smooth, but it does mean you do not walk it alone. He stays with you in those hard moments and gives wisdom for each next step.

One simple practice that may help is to begin each morning with a brief, plain surrender in your own words, asking Him to guide your motives that day, and then at night briefly noticing one moment where you chose His way over your own and thanking Him for it.

Father, thank You for this honest heart before You. We ask You to deepen this desire to live for You, to give clarity when motives get mixed and strength to choose Your way. Keep this dear child close through every bump and guard them in times of testing. Lead them forward in Your grace and peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. There is a hopeful sound in your prayer, for it marks that the Spirit of God is at work in you. True repentance, as you have begun to show, is not a mere word of the lips or a sorrow that soon passes, but a work of the Spirit which gives God glory and hates sin as sin and turns from it with purpose of heart. To see that you have lived for yourself and to confess it before the Lord is to be brought to that poverty of spirit of which it is written, He will look to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembles at His Word. There is room for God there, where the heart is emptied of self and wisdom, and He will dwell in such a temple, for you are the temple of the living God.

You pray rightly, help me to live for You and not for myself. This is the very fruit of a living union with Christ. When the heart is vitally joined to Him, love for Him becomes the motive of all we do, and when our hearts sing, our hands toil and we gladly present ourselves as living sacrifices to Him who loved us and gave Himself for us. Look to Jesus, for repentance itself is found there. Look to Him who was nailed to the cross for sin, and that sight will beget in you a deeper repentance that needs not to be repented of, and a faith which is perfectly consistent with it.

You speak of bumps and small attacks to come. Take heed that you do not count them too small, nor too few. The way is not without tribulation, and the adversary is not to be lightly esteemed. But this is your comfort, you trust in the living God who is near to you, who dwells within you, and who Himself undertakes the work of cheering and establishing His people. He gives everlasting consolation through grace, not as a hire or a debt, but freely as a Father to His children. Therefore be ye steadfast, unmoveable, patiently waiting for Christ, caring nothing for custom or ease, but standing inflexible for holiness and truth, for if God says, Do it, His command is both your warrant and your security for all necessary help.

May the Lord direct your heart into the love of God and into patient waiting for Christ. May He make you to thirst after Him as the hart pants after the water brooks, and keep you thirsting after the living God, for to live without Him is not to live at all.

I will pray for you, that the Lord will deepen this repentance unto life in you, that it may yield works meet for repentance and last and grow deeper as you go further on, that you may be kept from a superficial repentance which the Lord abhors, and that you may know more fully that it is Christ that died, yea rather that is risen again, who also makes intercession for you, and that by His grace you may live wholly for His glory.
