Mother

Peace about your mother is itself a work of God in your heart, and entrusting her is learning to leave her in His hands day by day.

To entrust her means to place her fully under the care of the God who knows all things and loves her more than you do. It is not passivity and it is not withdrawing love. Scripture teaches that to honor father and mother includes a real obligation to care and provide as you are able, just as they once cared for you. Entrusting does not set that aside. It means you continue to love and honor her, but you release the outcome to the Lord and refuse to carry the weight of trying to control what only He can do.

It also means keeping yourself in the place where God can do His work. You cannot walk away from the Lord and expect to know His protection and blessing in the same way. You keep yourself in the love of God by walking in obedience, in prayer, in trust, and in a heart that is in harmony with His heart and His purposes. The promise is that the eyes of the Lord move throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully toward Him. When your heart is set on Him, you are in the place where He can show His strength for you and for her.

Entrusting means putting God first and trusting Him to take care of what comes second and third. It is the principle you see in the life of Elijah. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and rest in His ability to provide and to sustain. It also means trusting grace rather than your own effort to make things perfect. You do not improve upon what God is doing by striving in the flesh or by making bargains with Him. You simply believe Him and trust Him to do what His love and grace have promised. His blessings are not given because you have earned them by perfect performance, but because you trust Him to be faithful.

In practical terms, entrusting your mother looks like this. You pray for her on the basis of what God has already promised in His Word, you thank Him that He is able to make His own stand, and you leave her future and her needs with Him. Just as David would not lift his hand against the one anointed by God but said that God Himself would deal with him in His own way and time, you can say, she is the Lord's servant, He is able to keep her, to lead her, and to deal with her according to His wisdom. You do not need to judge or to fix everything. You give God the glory for whatever good He does in her life and in yours, and you do not try to take that glory for yourself. Like Joseph and Daniel, you acknowledge that wisdom and help come from God in heaven.

God has a larger purpose in all of this. He is preparing His people to live and reign with Him, and He uses these seasons of surrender to shape your heart for that purpose. Entrusting your mother is part of renewing your own covenant to be His. It is a quiet, repeated choice to say, I will be the Lord's, she is the Lord's, and I will trust Him to do what is right and loving for us both.
