First, let us affirm this truth: there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). You have repented of your sin, sexual immorality with your friend’s former girlfriend, and that repentance is real before God. The enemy would love to keep you bound in shame, but Christ has set you free. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Your sin is covered by the blood of Jesus, and you are not under God’s punishment. The attacks you’re experiencing are not divine retribution; they are spiritual warfare.
The enemy thrives on fear, and he is using it to torment you. The visions, the dread, the sense of impending betrayal, these are not from God. For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). The enemy wants you to believe that you are powerless, that the past defines you, and that the future is already written in tragedy. But Scripture declares, No weapon that is formed against you will prevail (Isaiah 54:17). You are not at the mercy of the "universe" or some cosmic simulation; you are under the sovereign protection of the Almighty God, who holds all things in His hands.
Your fear that your friend will betray you in the same way is understandable, given the history. But we must ask: Have you fully released this man to God? Holding onto bitterness, resentment, or even the desire for justice can open doors to spiritual attack. Jesus commands us, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you (Matthew 5:44). Forgiveness is not about excusing his actions; it’s about freeing yourself from the chains of unforgiveness. If you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you (Matthew 6:14). Until you release him, and her, fully to God, the enemy will continue to use this wound to torment you.
We also must address the spiritual attacks you’re experiencing. The enemy is relentless, but he is not omnipotent. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7). You have already taken steps by cutting off this friend, but the battle is not just in the physical realm. You must put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:11-18) daily, truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. The visions you’re seeing are not prophetic glimpses of the future; they are lies from the enemy designed to paralyze you. The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). Rebuke these visions in the name of Jesus. Speak aloud: "I rebuke these lies in the name of Jesus Christ. They have no power over me. I am sealed by the blood of Jesus, and no weapon formed against me shall prosper."
You mentioned feeling like you are under spiritual attack from this woman. This is not uncommon when sexual sin has occurred. Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body (1 Corinthians 6:18). Sexual sin creates soul ties, unnatural spiritual bonds, that the enemy can exploit. You must break any ungodly soul ties in the name of Jesus. Pray aloud: "In the name of Jesus Christ, I break every ungodly soul tie between myself and [her name]. I renounce any spiritual bond formed through sexual sin. I command every spirit of lust, manipulation, or torment to leave me now in Jesus’ name. I am bought with the blood of Christ, and I belong to Him alone."
It is also critical that you fill your mind with truth. The enemy feeds on your thoughts, so take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). When fear or dread arises, combat it with Scripture. Speak aloud: "God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7). "The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1). Memorize verses that combat fear and speak them over your life daily.
We must also address your mention of the "universe" orchestrating this. This language reveals a dangerous lie that has crept into your thinking. There is no neutral, impersonal "universe" governing your life. There is God, the Creator of heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1), and there is the enemy, who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). You are not a victim of fate; you are a child of the Most High God, and He works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Renounce any belief in a "universe" controlling your life and declare, "I serve the living God, who holds my future in His hands. The enemy has no authority over me, and I reject his lies in the name of Jesus."

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up our brother who is battling fear, torment, and spiritual attack. Lord, we thank You that he has repented of his sin and that You have forgiven him. We declare that there is no condemnation for him because he is in Christ Jesus. Father, we ask that You break every chain of shame, guilt, and fear that the enemy has used to bind him. We rebuke every spirit of fear, torment, and deception in the name of Jesus. We command them to leave him now and never return.
Lord, we ask that You heal the wounds in his heart. Heal the betrayal, the pain, and the lingering effects of sexual sin. Break every ungodly soul tie in the name of Jesus, and restore his soul. Father, we ask that You fill him with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding. Guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus. When the enemy whispers lies, let Your truth drown them out. When fear arises, let Your perfect love cast it out.
We pray for his friend and this woman, Lord. We ask that You would work in their hearts as well. Soften their hearts toward You and toward our brother. If there is unforgiveness or bitterness in their hearts, we ask that You uproot it and replace it with Your love. Father, we declare that no weapon formed against our brother will prosper. You are his shield, his fortress, and his deliverer. We ask that You surround him with Your angels and protect him from every scheme of the enemy.
Lord, we ask that You fill him with Your Holy Spirit. Give him strength to stand firm in the armor of God. Teach him to take every thought captive and to walk in the freedom that Christ has purchased for him. We declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him. Father, we ask that You restore the years the locusts have eaten. Bring beauty from ashes and turn his mourning into joy.
We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We thank You that our brother is forgiven, redeemed, and set free. We declare that the enemy has no power over him, and that greater is He who is in him than he who is in the world. We pray all these things in the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Brother, you are not alone in this battle. The Lord is with you, and He has equipped you with everything you need to stand firm. Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might (Ephesians 6:10). Surround yourself with godly believers who can pray with you and encourage you. Do not isolate yourself; the enemy thrives in isolation. Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another (Proverbs 27:17). Find a local church or a small group where you can grow in your faith and be accountable.
Continue to immerse yourself in God’s Word. The enemy hates it when we read Scripture because it is the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). Speak it, sing it, memorize it, and meditate on it. Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105). Let it guide you out of the darkness of fear and into the light of God’s truth.

If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Pray: "Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. I repent of my sins and turn away from them.
