Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for my husband, ###. He suffers from PTSD and morning rages. I pray he can heal mentally and be able to have a kind heart.

We are lifting you and your husband up together before the throne of grace and we thank you for sharing this burden with us. We understand how heavy it is to love someone who suffers from PTSD and to experience those morning rages, and we want you to know that God sees both of you in this struggle and He is near to those who are hurting.

The Lord tells us in Psalm 34:18 that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, and in Psalm 147:3 that He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. We also know that God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as we read in 2 Timothy 1:7. PTSD is a deep wound of the mind and heart, often rooted in trauma and fear, and we believe God desires to bring healing, peace, and restoration. At the same time Scripture calls us to be self-controlled and kind, for the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control in Galatians 5:22-23.

We want to gently and lovingly address the rages, because while we have great compassion for the pain your husband carries, outbursts of anger that harm a spouse are not aligned with God's will for marriage. Scripture says in Ephesians 4:26-27 Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t give place to the devil, and in James 1:19-20 that everyone should be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God. A kind heart as you prayed for is God's desire for him, as Ephesians 4:32 says And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. We encourage him to seek help for this, both spiritual and practical, through trusted pastoral counsel, godly Christian counseling, and medical support if needed, so that he can learn to walk in healing and self-control. We also encourage you to continue to show love while also maintaining healthy boundaries and seeking support for yourself, and we encourage you both to pursue peace together through prayer, the Word, and fellowship.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and receive salvation and healing. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved as Romans 10:9 promises. It is in His name we pray with confidence.

Let us pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we lift up this dear husband to You. Lord, You know the trauma he has endured and the wounds that have left him with PTSD and with anger that rises in the morning. We ask You to heal his mind and his heart, to calm his nervous spirit, and to replace fear and torment with Your perfect peace. Pour out Your love and self-control upon him by Your Holy Spirit, give him a kind and tender heart toward his wife and toward You, and help him to be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger. Teach him to bring his anger to You and not to sin. We pray for this wife who loves him faithfully, grant her strength, wisdom, patience, and protection, and guard her heart from discouragement. Help them both to cast all their worries on You because You care for them in 1 Peter 5:7, and to experience the peace of God which surpasses all understanding guarding their hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus as promised in Philippians 4:7. Lead them to godly counsel and resources that will help him heal, and draw their marriage closer to You and to each other. We ask all this in the mighty and healing name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep praying without ceasing, to keep speaking Scripture over your husband and your home, and to keep seeking support from mature believers and counselors who honor God. The Lord is faithful and He hears your prayers for your husband, and we are standing with you trusting that God will continue His healing work and will cultivate in him a kind, gentle, and self-controlled heart for the glory of God and for the strengthening of your marriage.

Thank you for bringing your husband to us in prayer. We hear how heavy this has been for you both, especially the mornings, and how much you long to see him healed and at peace with a gentle heart.

Loving someone who carries trauma is tender and often exhausting work. One thing that has helped many couples we walk with is understanding that anger is rarely just anger on its own. It often rides on top of deeper hurt, frustration, or fear, and it takes a lot of energy to hold. That does not excuse harsh words or actions, but it can help make sense of why mornings, when a person is still coming out of sleep and memories can feel close, are so difficult.

Alongside prayer, we gently encourage continuing care with trusted professionals. If ### is not already connected with a doctor, counselor, or pastor who understands trauma, it can be a steady next step to invite one of them to walk with you both. And for you, having one safe person to talk with regularly, whether family, a friend, or someone in your church, can make a real difference so you are not carrying this alone. If you ever feel unsafe, please reach out right away for help in person.

We are praying for you both.

Father, we lift ### to You and ask for Your healing and calm over his mind and heart. Give him help that truly helps, and give his wife wisdom, strength, and protection as she loves him. Draw them both close to You and lead them day by day in Your peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden has been brought before the Lord with tender care, and we join you in prayer for your husband in his suffering from PTSD and those morning rages, asking that the Great Physician would grant him healing of mind and a kind and gentle heart.

We very speedily care for bodily diseases, for they are painful and urge us to seek a physician, but how much more does the wounded spirit need the healing hand of Christ. The Scripture tells us that the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and that the least thing about Christ is full of healing virtue. Not only His fruit but even His leaves are healing, to change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation for all who look to Him.

We pray that the Sun of Righteousness would rise upon your husband with healing in His wings. When Jesus healed the sick, pardon and healing were one, and so we ask first for His forgiving grace to be known in your husband's heart, for healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. The Lord who alone can bind up the brokenhearted bows Himself over the mangled heart, and in His hands there are no thunders and on His lips no threatening, only mercy.

We ask the Lord to lift the burden of trauma that weighs upon his mind, to calm the storm that breaks forth in anger, and to make him new within. The man who has erred by anger can by grace become meek and gentle, for Christ is able to restore and to make the nature other than it was. May the Lord grant him a renewed mind, peace in the morning hours, self control through the Spirit, and a heart that is kind and tender as Christ is tender to us.

We also remember you, who watches and loves and bears this sorrow. The Lord healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds, and He hears the cry of a wife who loves her husband and seeks his good. May you find strength as you wait upon Christ, hearing His Word, for faith comes by hearing and healing power is present when Christ is taught. Continue to bring your husband before the throne of grace, trusting not in any instrument but in the Lord Himself who alone can justify and heal.

We pray together:

O Lord our God, have mercy according to Thy lovingkindness and according to the multitude of Thy tender mercies. Look upon this dear brother in his affliction of mind and memory, and upon the anger that so quickly rises within him. Forgive him through the blood of Jesus Christ alone, and heal him. Purge the evil, calm the troubled spirit, and give him a new heart that is kind and gentle and governed by Thy Spirit. Let Thy healing leaves be applied to his wounds, and let Thy grace work health and cure within him. Sustain his wife with patience and hope, and let Your peace dwell in their home. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour and Healer. Amen.
