Matthew 11:28

We are so blessed that you shared Matt 11:28 on your heart, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. This is the precious invitation of Jesus Himself speaking, and we rejoice with you in this promise because so many of us are weary in this life.

We hear in this verse the tender heart of our Savior toward those of us who are exhausted, overwhelmed by sin, sorrow, anxiety, work, family struggles, or the burdens of this world. He does not tell us to try harder or to carry it alone, He tells us to come to Him. And He continues in Matt 11:29-30, Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. The rest He offers is not just physical sleep or a temporary escape, but deep rest for our souls, forgiveness, peace with God, and strength for each day.

We want to gently remind you that this rest is found in no other one and through no other name. It is Jesus Christ alone who can give it, for He said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we try to find rest in our own efforts, in other people, in success or even in religion without Christ, we will remain burdened. But when we come to Jesus in repentance and faith, believing He died for our sins and rose again, we enter into His rest.

We take comfort also in promises like 1 Pet 5:7 casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you, and Ps 55:22 Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved. And Phil 4:7 tells us, And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

We pray together for you and with you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You that Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to Him. We thank You that He is gentle and lowly in heart and that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. We lift up the one who shared this verse and every weary heart reading it now. Lord, You know the burdens we carry that no one else sees. We cast them on You now, trusting that You care for us and that You sustain us. Forgive us for the times we have tried to carry our burdens alone or sought rest in things that cannot satisfy. Draw us closer to Jesus, teach us to learn from Him, to walk with Him daily, and to find true rest for our souls. Fill us with Your peace that surpasses all understanding and guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Help us to come to Jesus continually, to abide in Him, and to trust Him with every care. We ask this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, our rest and our hope. Amen.

We encourage you to keep coming to Him daily in prayer and in His Word, to lay every burden at His feet, and to learn from Him. He is faithful and He will give you rest.

We are glad you reached out with that verse on your heart. That kind of weariness is real, and it makes sense you would be looking for rest. When life feels heavy for a while, even small tasks can feel like too much, and it helps to name that honestly before the Lord and before someone you trust.

We have found worship alongside other believers can be a quiet way God cares for tired hearts over time, not because it fixes everything at once but because it puts us back in his presence where we are reminded we do not carry everything alone. If it is possible this week, consider setting aside a brief unhurried time to rest and to worship, and letting one trusted friend or pastor know you are feeling worn down so they can walk with you. Small steady steps matter when you are weary.

We are praying for you and we do not take your request lightly.

Father, we bring our friend to you in Jesus name. You see this weariness and the burdens being carried. Please draw near with your peace and give rest for today and wisdom for the next steps. Surround them with caring people and help them sense you are with them day by day. In Jesus name, amen.

How sweet and condescending is the voice of our Lord when He says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. It is not a word of counsel only, but a word of promise, and it is spoken to such as you who feel weary and burdened.

You do well to bring this text before the throne, for it describes both your condition and your cure. To be weary is to have spent your strength and found no place to set the sole of your foot. To be burdened is to carry a load too heavy for you, whether it be sin, or sorrow, or care, or fear. The world cannot give you rest, and even the church of itself cannot give it. Like Noah's dove, the soul finds no rest till it comes back to the ark, till it comes back to Christ Himself.

If you have any desire after Christ, remember that He must first have found you. As the sheep never finds its shepherd till the shepherd first finds it, so your seeking is because He has sought you. This is your encouragement to come. He who has put the weary longing in your heart will not cast you out when you come to Him.

Come then to Christ in Gethsemane, to Christ on Calvary, to Christ risen and ascended. Lay your burden down at His dear pierced feet, and find life in looking alone to Him. Do not rest content until you have that perfect peace which He alone can give. He promises to give rest to the entire being, peace about everything, a rest of the deepest, truest kind, which the world cannot give and which the world cannot take away. It is not a second-rate rest, but first class rest, precious because it comes from His own hands.

This rest is to be found and then found more and more. There is a rest He gives at the first coming, when the burden of sin rolls off, and there is a further rest found in learning of Him, in taking His yoke and becoming meek and lowly in heart as He is. If you would know abiding rest, let your mind be made like the mind of Christ, count His reproach greater riches than all the treasures of Egypt, and learn His meekness in labour and in suffering. So you shall find rest in service and rest in suffering.

All the sacraments in the world cannot give you rest, nor can all the preachers that ever spoke give rest to your weary spirit. Rest for a soul is found in Jesus only, in trusting His person and His finished work. Trust and you shall rest. He gave Himself for your salvation, and there is no risk in resting upon Him. If God is true, the soul that rests on Christ is safe, and therefore perfectly at rest.

May the Lord draw you close unto Himself and give you to know this rest even now. May He put forth His hand and pull you in unto Him, that you may hide yourself in the breast of Christ and feel secure. And may that rest which you taste below be but the foretaste of the perfect rest which remains for the people of God, where we shall be wholly at rest in His presence.

I pray that you will hear His voice anew today, that you will come without delay, and that you will prove how loving and how able He is to give rest to all who come.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
