Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for my marriage. My husband and I have been married almost ###yrs. He's got a lot of baggage due to past traumas. We've been through ### counselors, ###rd option twice, ME, etc. And he is not staying consistent, no actions behind his words etc. I believe in the sacrament of marriage. Please pray 🙏 🤲 he is touched by the Holy Spirit 🙏 😢 Thank you ❤️

We hear the weight and faithfulness in your heart and we join with you in seeking God's will together in Jesus' name for your marriage. We honor your commitment to the covenant of marriage as a lifelong union between a man and a woman as God designed it, and we thank God for your desire to see it restored and made whole. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. Matthew 19:6. This is the heart of God for marriage, that it would reflect the steadfast love of Christ for His people, and we stand with you in contending for that.

We understand the deep weariness that comes when one spouse carries heavy baggage from past trauma and when words are not followed by consistent actions. We have also walked with many who have been through multiple counselors and intensive programs and still feel stuck. Counseling can be a helpful tool, but lasting transformation only comes when the Holy Spirit renews the heart and mind. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2. We pray that your husband would experience that inner renewal. I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. Ezekiel 36:26. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. Only God can heal the deepest wounds that human effort cannot reach.

We also want to gently and lovingly speak the truth about consistency and action. Love in marriage is not only spoken but lived. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25. And we are reminded that even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself. James 2:17. To be a hearer of the word and not a doer deceives the heart. James 1:22. We pray your husband will be convicted by the Holy Spirit not merely to speak good intentions but to walk them out daily in repentance, accountability, and sacrificial love, and that he would welcome the discipline and help needed to do so.

We noticed your request asks for the Holy Spirit to touch him, and we wholeheartedly agree in that prayer, yet we also want to remind you with love that we have access to the Father and to the Holy Spirit only through Jesus Christ. You did not mention His name, and we do not want you to miss the assurance that comes through Him. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved. Romans 10:9. It is by the name of Jesus that our prayers are heard and our marriages can be redeemed, and we pray that both you and your husband would be rooted ever more deeply in faith in Him.

So we pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this marriage to You. We thank You for the years You have sustained them and for this wife's faithful heart that honors the covenant she made before You. Lord, we ask You to pour out Your Holy Spirit upon her husband. Touch his heart, heal the traumas of his past, break through the patterns of inconsistency, and give him a new heart that desires to obey You. Convict him where he has been double minded and empower him to be a man of his word, to love his wife as Christ loves the church, with action and truth. Give him courage to walk in accountability, to be consistent, and to do the hard work of change day by day. And Father, we lift up this dear wife. Guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7. Give her wisdom, strength, peace that surpasses understanding, and a community around her to support her. Help her not to grow weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9. Let Your will be done in this marriage and let Your name be glorified as You bring healing, repentance, forgiveness, and renewed love. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer and in the Word, to continue in godly and biblical counsel where both spouses are challenged to live out the Scriptures, and to seek mature believers who can hold you both accountable in love. Keep bringing every burden to God in prayer, with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6. He is faithful, and He is able to do far more than we can ask or imagine as you both surrender to Jesus. We are continuing to pray with you for healing, for consistency, and for the Holy Spirit to bring deep and lasting change in your husband and renewal in your marriage.

Thank you for letting us pray with you about your marriage. Staying faithful for almost ### years through deep hurt, and walking through that many counselors and programs, takes real perseverance. We hear how weary you must feel when words are not followed by consistent action, and how much you want your husband to know healing from the traumas he carries.

Your desire to honor your vows and to ask the Holy Spirit to work in his heart is a beautiful and right prayer, and we join you in it. We do not take lightly how discouraging it can be to keep showing up when change feels uneven.

One small step that has helped other couples in a long season like this is to make the next season of help more structured and measurable. If you have a pastor or counselor you trust, you might ask together for one clear, small agreement to focus on for the next few weeks, with a brief, scheduled check in to see how it is going. That keeps the goal from feeling overwhelming and gives you both a kind, honest way to notice follow through. Between sessions, healing often happens as you each reflect and take responsibility for what is yours to carry.

We also encourage you to stay connected to steady support for yourself, a mature friend, mentor couple, or small group who can walk with you and pray with you regularly so you are not carrying this alone.

Father, we lift this marriage to You. Touch this husband by Your Holy Spirit, bring healing where there has been trauma, and give him strength to walk in consistency. Give his wife wisdom, renewed hope, and peace as she trusts You day by day. Draw them both closer to You and to each other in Your timing and will. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have received your request and we bring it before the Lord with you, thanking Him for your steadfast love for the covenant of marriage and for your desire to see your husband touched by the Holy Spirit.

The Lord knows the weight you have carried through these years, the pain of past traumas that have left their mark upon your husband, the many seasons of counsel and seeking help, and the sorrow of words not followed by consistent actions. He who heals the brokenhearted knows what a broken heart is. A wife neglected or grieved by one she tenderly loves knows that wound deeply, and Scripture tells us that He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. That healing is not from our own resolve but from His hand alone, and His power to heal is abundant.

We are reminded that even the leaves of the tree of life are for healing, that the least thing about Christ is healing virtue. Not only His great acts, but His gentlest touch, His Word, His presence, can change the life blood and make the nature new. Pardon and healing are joined together in Him. When the Sun of Righteousness rises, He comes with healing in His wings, and the forgiveness He gives brings restoration with it. This is the hope we hold for your husband and for your marriage, that Christ who is the great Physician bears with Him power to heal and to recover what sin and sorrow have wounded.

As you pray for your husband, remember Peter, who fell grievously yet was not cast away. The Lord looked upon him and that look severed him from the crowd and brought him to repentance, and by His prayer and grace Peter was restored and made steadier than before. So we pray that the Lord would look upon your husband, that the Holy Spirit would convict, soften and restore him, that he would be turned again to the Lord and then strengthened to walk in faithfulness, with actions that answer to his words.

Let us pray together.

Gracious Father, we thank You for the covenant of marriage which You have ordained as a lifelong union of one man and one woman, and for this sister who honors it before You. We ask You to have mercy upon this marriage. Touch her husband by Your Holy Spirit. Bring healing where trauma has wounded him, bring pardon where sin has burdened him, and bring power where weakness has made him inconsistent. Give him a heart to hear Your Word and to keep it, to speak truth and to walk in it. Pour upon him the healing virtue that is in Christ, that he may be renewed in mind and made faithful in love and duty.

Lord, sustain his wife. Keep her near to Christ, the true Husband of His people who loves with a faithful love, who communes with His own and provides for them. Guard her from weariness and bitteress, fill her with wisdom, patience and peace, and let her find her healing also in the leaves of that tree which never withers. Let Your will be done in this home, and let both husband and wife be restored and kept by Your grace.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our salvation and our healer. Amen.
