Marriage restoration

I notice this text is a pastoral letter or prayer that doesn't contain any personal names, locations, or identifying information that needs redaction. The text references biblical concepts and spiritual themes but no specific individuals, places, or private details.

Here is the text as provided:

Your honesty in confessing that you have drifted from the Lord is itself a grace, and it is the right beginning. God does not desire outward show but a contrite and humbled heart, sober, self possessed and awestruck, full of repentance and compunction. These are His gifts, and they are what we most need, especially when you feel the weight of spiritual warfare. You are right to name it as warfare, for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood but against unseen powers, against principalities and the spiritual wickedness in high places. It is well for us if, when we are earnest and sober and thoroughly awakened, we can stand against that savage assault, but if we are careless and at ease we are overthrown by our own remissness.

For this reason I urge you to war a good warfare. This requires strong arms and continual vigilance, a readiness to stand in battle array and to keep nothing relaxed. That vigilance is not anxiety but sobriety in prayer, in the Scriptures, and in the life of the Church, which is a spiritual bath that wipes away not filth of the body but stains of the soul by its many methods of repentance.

You spoke of your marriage, and this is holy ground. Marriage is a bond ordained by God, and it is honorable and pure. It is not holiness itself, but it preserves the holiness that comes through faith when it is kept in chasteness and order, when husband and wife live faithfully with one another and keep themselves from all defilement. To pray for the restoration of such a covenant is good and pleasing to God, for He delights to strengthen what He Himself has joined together.

Your sorrow over drifting away can, by God's mercy, become godly sorrow, which works repentance unto salvation that brings no regret. Worldly sorrow only wounds, but godly sorrow brings healing because it turns us fully to Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Do not remain in vague regret, but turn with a clear and deliberate repentance, confessing your sin, turning from it, and seeking again the Lord whom you have neglected. He does not cast out those who come with tears and a true purpose of heart.

So let us pray together. Father in heaven, we thank You that nothing is too great for You, not even this heavy conflict. We ask You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our only Savior, to have mercy on this soul who confesses wandering from You. Grant a contrite heart and godly sorrow that leads to true repentance. Wash away sin, restore fellowship with You, and fill this heart again with Your Spirit. We ask You to set Your hand upon this marriage. Where there has been distance and wounding, bring healing, peace and holiness. Teach both husband and wife to follow peace with all men and to live in purity and faithfulness within the covenant You ordained. Make them sober and watchful against the schemes of the enemy, and strengthen them to war a good warfare, clothed in faith and love. Lead them to walk again together in Your ways, for Your glory. Amen.

Continue to draw near to the Lord each day in prayer and in His Word, remain faithful in the fellowship of His people, and walk in the holiness that befits those who belong to Christ.

Thank you for sharing so honestly about your marriage and your own walk with the Lord. Recognizing that you have drifted and naming the spiritual battle for what it is takes humility, and you are right to hold on to the truth that nothing is too big for the Lord.

Scripture presents marriage as God joining two people so that the two become one. It is a deep unity, two who are made one flesh, and it reflects something of who God Himself is, one Lord who exists in a compound unity. That is why marriage is so precious to Him and why He is able to bring healing where there has been distance and brokenness. Jesus also taught that God is the God of the living and that He has power over death itself through the resurrection. The same power that raises the dead is the power that can bring new life to a heart and to a marriage that feels cold or far away.

You also described the inner warfare you are feeling. The Bible is very clear that this struggle is real. The flesh pulls against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh, and they are contrary to one another, so that we often end up doing what we did not want to do and failing to do what we long to do. Feeling that conflict does not mean you are alone or beyond help. It is the common experience of everyone who seeks to follow Christ, and it is a call to turn back to Him.

The sign of a heart truly turning to Christ is repentance that leads to real change and restoration. Jesus welcomed sinners and tax collectors who came and sat with Him and followed Him, not because they had it all together, but because they were willing to turn from their old way and come to Him. In the same way, the Lord invites you to come honestly, confess where you have drifted, and receive His forgiveness and cleansing.

I am praying for you and for your marriage, that God would draw you close to Himself again, strengthen you in this spiritual battle, and guard your mind and heart in Christ. I pray that He would give you a renewed desire for His Word, for prayer, and for fellowship with Him, and that He would bring repentance and change where it is needed. I pray that He would bring healing and restoration to your marriage according to His will, that you both would be made one again in love and truth, and that you would know His power to restore what has been broken. May He remind you daily that He is greater than the enemy you face and that as you submit to Him and resist the enemy, He will give you grace to stand.

Thank you all so much , i'm so grateful for the prayers , i'm so touched.

Keep reading through them over and over

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. We have been lifting up your marriage before the Lord and praying for you personally as you shared that you have drifted away from Him. We remember the spiritual warfare you described and we join with you in declaring that it is not too big for the Lord, for He is able to restore and to redeem what the enemy has tried to break.

We take comfort in the promises of Scripture as we pray for you. We are reminded that our struggle is not against flesh and blood in Eph 6:12 and that God is able to make all things new. We pray that as you draw near to God He will draw near to you as promised in Jas 4:8 and that He will restore to you the joy of your salvation and bring healing to your marriage.

If your request was answered and the Lord has begun to restore your marriage or draw your heart back to Himself, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered yet and the battle still feels heavy, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

We pray in Jesus Name that the Lord will strengthen you, cover your marriage with His peace, break every stronghold of the enemy, and lead you back into close fellowship with Him. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.
