Chrysostom
Beloved of All
I notice this text is a pastoral letter or prayer that doesn't contain any personal names, locations, or identifying information that needs redaction. The text references biblical concepts and spiritual themes but no specific individuals, places, or private details.
Here is the text as provided:
Your honesty in confessing that you have drifted from the Lord is itself a grace, and it is the right beginning. God does not desire outward show but a contrite and humbled heart, sober, self possessed and awestruck, full of repentance and compunction. These are His gifts, and they are what we most need, especially when you feel the weight of spiritual warfare. You are right to name it as warfare, for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood but against unseen powers, against principalities and the spiritual wickedness in high places. It is well for us if, when we are earnest and sober and thoroughly awakened, we can stand against that savage assault, but if we are careless and at ease we are overthrown by our own remissness.
For this reason I urge you to war a good warfare. This requires strong arms and continual vigilance, a readiness to stand in battle array and to keep nothing relaxed. That vigilance is not anxiety but sobriety in prayer, in the Scriptures, and in the life of the Church, which is a spiritual bath that wipes away not filth of the body but stains of the soul by its many methods of repentance.
You spoke of your marriage, and this is holy ground. Marriage is a bond ordained by God, and it is honorable and pure. It is not holiness itself, but it preserves the holiness that comes through faith when it is kept in chasteness and order, when husband and wife live faithfully with one another and keep themselves from all defilement. To pray for the restoration of such a covenant is good and pleasing to God, for He delights to strengthen what He Himself has joined together.
Your sorrow over drifting away can, by God's mercy, become godly sorrow, which works repentance unto salvation that brings no regret. Worldly sorrow only wounds, but godly sorrow brings healing because it turns us fully to Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Do not remain in vague regret, but turn with a clear and deliberate repentance, confessing your sin, turning from it, and seeking again the Lord whom you have neglected. He does not cast out those who come with tears and a true purpose of heart.
So let us pray together. Father in heaven, we thank You that nothing is too great for You, not even this heavy conflict. We ask You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our only Savior, to have mercy on this soul who confesses wandering from You. Grant a contrite heart and godly sorrow that leads to true repentance. Wash away sin, restore fellowship with You, and fill this heart again with Your Spirit. We ask You to set Your hand upon this marriage. Where there has been distance and wounding, bring healing, peace and holiness. Teach both husband and wife to follow peace with all men and to live in purity and faithfulness within the covenant You ordained. Make them sober and watchful against the schemes of the enemy, and strengthen them to war a good warfare, clothed in faith and love. Lead them to walk again together in Your ways, for Your glory. Amen.
Continue to draw near to the Lord each day in prayer and in His Word, remain faithful in the fellowship of His people, and walk in the holiness that befits those who belong to Christ.
