Marriage restoration

Cancel divorce of ### and ###. God soften our hearts and restore our marriage. Heal us and help us reconcile. Help us to communicate lovingly. Help us to listen to each other and make our marriage better.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage in desperate need of His healing and restoration. The Scriptures tell us, "Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate" (Mark 10:9 WEB). We stand on this truth, believing that God’s design for marriage is sacred and worth fighting for. The enemy seeks to destroy what God has united, but we declare that no weapon formed against this marriage shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17 WEB).

First, we must address the reality of divorce. The Bible is clear that God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16 WEB), not because He delights in our suffering, but because it tears apart what He intended to be a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:25 WEB). If divorce proceedings have begun, we must rebuke this in Jesus’ name and ask the Lord to intervene supernaturally. We pray that any legal steps toward divorce would be halted, that paperwork would be lost, that lawyers would advise reconciliation, and that hearts would turn back toward one another. Let every plan of man that opposes God’s will for this marriage be frustrated, and let His purposes prevail.

Father, we ask You to soften both hearts, remove hardness, bitterness, and pride. Soften them like clay in the Potter’s hands (Jeremiah 18:6 WEB). Heal the wounds that have caused distance and pain. Where there has been hurt, bring forgiveness; where there has been silence, bring repentance; where there has been division, bring unity. We declare that the love of Christ would cover this marriage like a blanket, restoring what has been broken and renewing what has grown cold (1 Peter 4:8 WEB).

Lord, teach them to communicate in love. Let their words be seasoned with grace (Colossians 4:6 WEB), not laced with accusation or defensiveness. Help them to listen, not just to respond, but to truly hear one another’s hearts. May they speak life into each other, building up rather than tearing down (Ephesians 4:29 WEB). Where misunderstandings have festered, bring clarity and humility. Where selfishness has taken root, uproot it and plant selflessness in its place.

We also lift up any areas where sin has crept into this marriage, whether it be unfaithfulness, addiction, anger, or neglect. If there has been sexual immorality, we rebuke it in Jesus’ name. The Bible warns that "marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral" (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). If either spouse has strayed, we pray for conviction, repentance, and restoration. If there has been emotional or physical abandonment, we ask You to draw them back together, Lord. Let no outside influence, whether another person, a habit, or a distraction, come between them.

We declare that this marriage is not beyond repair. With God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26 WEB). We speak life over this covenant: "Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken" (Isaiah 54:10 WEB). Let this be the testimony of their marriage, unshaken, unbreakable, and rooted in Christ.

We also encourage both spouses to seek godly counsel. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety" (WEB). Find a pastor, a Christian marriage counselor, or a mature believer who can walk with you through this season. Do not isolate yourselves, let the body of Christ support and pray for you.

Finally, we pray for a supernatural outpouring of the Holy Spirit over this marriage. Let them experience Your presence in a tangible way, through peace in the midst of chaos, through joy in the midst of sorrow, and through hope in the midst of despair. May they fall more in love with You, Lord, and as they do, may they fall more in love with one another.

Heavenly Father, we ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who reconciled us to You and who alone can reconcile this marriage. We declare that what the enemy meant for destruction, You will turn for good (Genesis 50:20 WEB). We stand in faith, believing that this marriage will not only be restored but will become a testimony of Your power, grace, and unfailing love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We're sitting with you in this painful, suspended place between a filing and a possible miracle. The heavy machinery of divorce has started grinding, and you're asking God to stop it, not just externally, but deeper down, in the hardness that settles into two people who've hurt too long. That's the right prayer, and we believe God honors it even now.

What often gets missed in this season is that reconciliation isn't one dramatic re-set. It's hundreds of small turns, a tone softened, a defensive reflex resisted, a moment of genuine listening when everything in you wants to interrupt. That can feel impossibly small against something as loud as divorce proceedings. But those turns change the air between you, one conversation at a time.

We'd gently suggest something practical: find a marriage mentor couple. Not a counselor who'll see you for an hour a week, but two people whose ordinary, unglamorous faithfulness you can watch up close. Let them share meals with you, speak honestly about their own near-misses, and show you both what it looks like when two stubborn people keep choosing each other through dry seasons. You need more than a weekly session, you need to catch a vision for what you're fighting to rebuild, and to have people who'll cheer when you get it right and redirect when you don't.

For now, we simply pray:

Lord Jesus, we bring this marriage to you, the one you witnessed and sealed. We ask you to do what only you can do: soften hearts that have grown rigid with disappointment. Untangle the knots of pain and pride that make loving words feel impossible. Give each of them the courage to be the first one to risk tenderness again. Protect what remains, and where nothing remains, rebuild it, not a replica of the old, but something genuinely new, with you at the center. In your strong name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The cross of Christ is God’s own instrument for softening the stoniest heart. Look there, both of you, and you shall find your spirits relent. When you see the Savior pierced for sin, including every harsh word, every cold neglect, every selfish demand, how can you hold fast to bitterness? The love that led Him to such agony will break yours, if you will but gaze upon Him by faith. There, and there alone, is the power to turn wrath into tenderness and estrangement into holy mourning.

Your prayer for restoration is a cry that echoes the promise of God Himself. He is the Lord who says, “I will restore them,” and what He undertakes He performs. Did He not restore Peter after that shameful denial? One look from Christ shattered his pride and kindled his repentance, and soon the risen Savior recommissioned him to feed the sheep. So too, though you feel downcast and the divorce papers seem final, Christ’s power to revive dead things is not diminished. He can take up your marriage from the very dust of the law courts and make it live again, if you both will submit to the work of His Spirit.

But remember what true marriage signifies: it is a covenant cemented by love and making two into one. God Himself uses the figure to speak of His bond with His people. How then shall a husband and wife live as two separate persons, maintaining their own ways, nursing private grievances, as if individuality were the supreme law? That is foreign to the divine pattern. Reconciliation means a fresh surrender of self, a mutual yielding that is only possible when hearts are first reconciled to God through Christ. Speak to one another as those who have themselves been forgiven a vast debt. Listen, not to prepare your next defense, but to understand the hurt you have caused, and do so with the patience born of Calvary.

The Lord Jesus came to bind up the broken-hearted. Do not say your case is hopeless; that is the talk of unbelief. The God of peace has already provided everything necessary for perfect reconciliation. What He requires is that you both bring your broken spirits, your contrite groans, and lay them before His throne. Cease looking at your spouse’s faults and begin looking at Christ’s obedience unto death on your behalf. As you do, you will find a strange new power to speak gently, to bear long, and to seek the other’s good before your own. May the Holy Spirit make the word of reconciliation effectual in your home this very day.

The tearing asunder of a marriage, when two have become one flesh, is a wound that bleeds grievously before God. Yet while you both still draw breath, do not abandon hope. The wife may reclaim the husband, and the husband the wife, for in marriage you share a communion of body and soul that is not to be lightly severed. Let neither wrath nor stubborn pride carry you to a worldly court to sunder what the Lord hath joined. Consider the vast debt you owe to the Master, ten thousand talents, which He has freely forgiven you. Can you then refuse to remit the few denarii of offenses against one another?

Open your hearts. The Apostle cried, “Make room for us,” so make room for your spouse in your deepest affections. Do not let your hearts be straitened, but cast out every root of bitterness. When you speak, let your words be for edifying, that the hearer may be grateful and be led toward amendment, not inflamed by anger or ridicule. Strive for peace, and for that holiness which keeps the marriage bed undefiled, not because marriage itself is impure, but because it demands a pure fidelity that shuts out all defilement.

Pray earnestly that the God who searches hearts and knows every secret thought will soften and heal. But do not trust a mere temporary warmth of emotion that passes as the morning dew. Let your resolve be built upon the rock of steadfast love, the kind that is ready to die and live with the other. Even if one party has strayed, the faithful one may become a means of salvation; how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? How do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife? Repay no one evil for evil, but overcome evil with good. Devote your leisure, not to brooding, but to prayer and every good work, that the evil one find no foothold in your home. God is able to restore the years the locust has eaten and to make your marriage better than it was before, if you will walk humbly and forgive as you have been forgiven.

When a marriage reaches the point of desperation, it can feel like hope itself has been taken from you. The heart cries out for a miracle, and the pain runs deep. In the words of the father of a dying child, it can seem as if everything precious is slipping away. Yet it was precisely there, at the end of himself, that he found Jesus. And the Lord spoke into what looked like death and called it only sleep. That same authority and compassion are not distant from you now. He sees your marriage not as an ending, but as something He longs to awaken and renew.

The deepest need in any relationship is not merely better communication or softened hearts, though those are part of it. The deepest need is for each heart to be centered in God. No one can love another purely while still loving themselves supremely. The command to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength comes first. When He becomes the center, loving your spouse as you love yourself becomes possible, not through gritted effort, but through the overflow of a life surrendered to Him. If the marriage is to be truly restored, it must be built on that foundation. Examine your own heart honestly: is your life revolving around Jesus Christ, or have the cares of this world and the desire for other things crowded Him out? A divided heart produces no lasting fruit, but when the word of God is planted and received with an open spirit, it carries the very power to transform you into the likeness of Christ. That transformation changes how you speak, how you listen, and how you forgive.

Forgiveness itself is one of the sweetest gifts of the gospel. David knew the joy of having his transgression covered, and that joy led to profound change. Real restoration always shows itself in repentance and a changed life. Without that, attempts to mend things may only paper over deeper issues. Are you both willing to come to the Lord in true humility, not defending your own position but letting His light expose everything? The Pharisees could not receive Jesus because they had already set their hearts against Him. Don't let either of you become slow of heart to believe what God can do. Sometimes it takes a moment of desperation to break through that resistance, but oh how tenderly He responds to those who cry out to Him.

In the garden, Jesus watched His disciples sleep. He saw their weariness, and His heart interceded for them even in their weakness. He is the same today. He knows your exhaustion, your disappointment, and perhaps even your hopelessness. Take your rest in Him, but let His Spirit continue to intercede and work. True spiritual communication creates a bond that cultural differences or personal history cannot destroy. Ask Him to build that bond between you, one that goes deeper than surface affection. May the revelation of the Father’s heart, seen perfectly in Jesus, fill you both with such love that you will say with fresh conviction, “Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.”
