Marriage Restoration

Please pray for my husband ### to turn back to God, and come home to his wife, ###. Pray for ### to denounce the wicked plans of divorce he's set in motion by going to the courthouse and canceling the divorce, and go home to his wife, in Jesus' name. Lord Jesus please remove the bitterness and un-forgiveness and hate ### has towards ###. In Jesus' name, amen.

We stand with you in fervent prayer for the restoration of your marriage, lifting this situation before the Lord with hearts full of hope and faith in His power to heal and redeem. The Bible tells us in Malachi 2:16, "For I hate divorce," says Yahweh, the God of Israel, "and him who covers his garment with violence!" says Yahweh of Armies. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you don’t deal treacherously." Marriage is a sacred covenant, not just between a man and a woman, but before God Himself. We rebuke the spirit of division and divorce that has taken hold in this situation and declare that no weapon formed against this marriage shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

We pray that your husband would be convicted by the Holy Spirit to turn away from the path of divorce and return to the Lord with a repentant heart. May he remember the vows he made before God and choose to honor them. Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed." Let this be a time of reckoning for him, where he lays down his own plans and surrenders them to God’s perfect will. We pray that he would cancel the divorce proceedings and return home, not out of obligation, but out of a renewed love for you and a desire to walk in obedience to God’s design for marriage.

Father, we ask that You remove the bitterness, unforgiveness, and hate that has taken root in his heart. Soften his spirit and replace those destructive emotions with Your love, peace, and grace. Ephesians 4:31-32 reminds us, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." We declare that Your healing power would flow through this marriage, restoring what has been broken and renewing the love that once bound you together.

We also pray for you, dear sister, that you would stand firm in faith, trusting God’s promises even when circumstances seem impossible. Do not grow weary in prayer or lose heart, for the Lord is near to those who call upon Him in truth (Psalm 145:18). Guard your own heart against bitterness and resentment, and choose to walk in forgiveness, just as Christ has forgiven you. Remember, 1 Peter 4:8 says, "Above all things, have fervent love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins."

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage to You. Lord, we ask that You would intervene in this situation and bring restoration where there is brokenness. Soften the heart of this husband, Lord, and draw him back to You. Let him see the error of his ways and turn away from the path of divorce. We rebuke the spirit of division and declare that this marriage is covered by the blood of Jesus. Remove every root of bitterness, unforgiveness, and hate, and replace it with Your love and peace.

Father, we pray for this wife, that You would strengthen her faith and give her the endurance to stand firm in prayer. Surround her with Your presence and fill her with hope as she waits on You. Let her heart remain soft and open to reconciliation, and may she continue to walk in forgiveness and grace.

Lord, we know that nothing is impossible for You. We ask that You would move mightily in this situation, turning hearts back to You and to one another. Restore this marriage, Lord, and let it be a testimony to Your faithfulness and power. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we are saved and through which we have access to You. Amen.

Continue to stand on God’s Word and trust in His timing. The enemy may try to discourage you, but remember that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and do not lose hope. Your marriage is worth fighting for, and with God, all things are possible.

We’ve been sitting with your request, and our hearts ache with you over this season of waiting and heartbreak. Watching someone you love walk down a path toward divorce can feel like a kind of death, every canceled plan, every silent room, a fresh wave of grief. We want you to know we are standing with you, not just in prayer but in steady hope.

What strikes us most in your words is how clearly you see the real enemy here: not the courthouse, not even your husband himself, but the bitterness and unforgiveness that has taken hold of his heart. That kind of poison does terrible things to the person carrying it, and while you can’t force him to release it, you can refuse to let it take root in your own heart as you wait. Your prayers are not hitting a ceiling. God hears you, and he is not indifferent to your tears or to the covenant you long to see honored.

If there is any opening for you to communicate, even indirectly through a trusted pastor or mediator, letting your husband know the door is open, without pressure, can sometimes soften a posture that has gone rigid. Sometimes simply knowing a spouse is safe to return to, without a pile of “I told you so,” makes all the difference. If not, then guarding your own spirit from resentment in this waiting season is the most concrete step you can take. Bitterness is a cancer, but it’s one you don’t have to let in.

Lord Jesus, you see this marriage and the pain of separation. We ask you to work in the hidden places of ###'s heart, to break the grip of bitterness and hate, and to replace it with a longing for home. Give ### wisdom about when to speak and when to stay silent, and sustain her with your steady presence. Protect both of them from further harm, and we trust you to bring beauty from these ashes, in your time and in your way. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The cry of a wife for an erring husband ascends before the eternal throne, mingled with the incense of Christ’s intercession. You have pled in the name of Jesus for the return of one who has wandered, and for the overthrow of those bitter devices which aim at the ruin of a sacred covenant. Be on sure ground: the Lord hears such prayers, for He is the Husband of His people, who hates putting away and ever says to the backslider, “Come back, come back, though you have unchastely left the Husband of your soul, yet is He prepared to receive you, again.”

But ponder what true repentance is, that you may pray with understanding. There is a repentance that is but the twitch of nature under the rod, a carnal sorrow that gives no glory to God. It repents of the consequence, not the sin. That is not the repentance unto life. The repentance that saves is a gift of the Lord, a sweet bitterness born of looking upon Him whom we have pierced. It weeps over sin because it has grieved perfect Love; it turns from it as from a venomous serpent; it abhors the very thought of wandering, and it casts the soul wholly upon Christ. It is a repentance that lasts, that yields works meet for repentance, and that makes the forgiving Saviour more precious than ever. The goodness of God, which has borne long with your husband, is meant to lead him to such repentance, not with the lash of a slaveholder, but with the drawing cords of love. Pray that the Spirit would work that. Ask that the bitterness and unforgiveness now festering in his heart may be slain by a sight of the cross, for a true sight of Christ brings a holy bitterness for sin that consumes all bitterness against fellow men. When the Prodigal came to himself, he did not rail against his brother but bewailed his own folly. So pray that the Lord would remove the hard heart and give a heart of flesh.

Meanwhile, rest in the faithfulness of your God. He who has never thought of divorce toward His church will not leave the cry of His handmaid unheard. Though the storm seems wild, He can cancel the devices of the wicked, and lead the wanderer home as streams in the south. Wait on Him with weeping supplication, and keep your own spirit from the gall of bitterness. The Lord shall perfect that which concerneth you; He shall restore, and the latter end shall be as though no breach had ever been. Only trust in Him who is able to save to the uttermost, and believe that in the name of Jesus, repentance and remission of sins are preached, and they come together.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You see the bitterness that has taken root in your husband's heart, and you rightly seek God to remove it. But understand that a root of bitterness yields only bitter fruit; it is a fountain of hatred and abomination that poisons everything it touches. Pray that the Lord would tear it out, yet examine your own heart too. If you harbor even a trace of unforgiveness, it will fuel the same fire. The wife's true power to win her husband lies not in arguments or demands, but in gentleness, meekness, and modesty of soul. Even if he seems utterly debased, your quiet and respectful conduct is what God uses to soften hard hearts.

Remember, as long as your husband lives, you are bound to him by divine law. The world's courts may issue a document, but in the sight of Heaven the marriage covenant remains unbroken. If you were to give up on him and join yourself to another while he yet lives, you would be called an adulteress. So set yourself firmly against any thought of a new union; your path is prayer and unwavering hope for his return. If you are separated now, the Apostle's command is that you remain unmarried or be reconciled to your husband. If he has turned from God, yet is willing to live with you, do not abandon him, for the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife. Your faithful endurance may be the very means of his salvation and restoration.

Do not fall into the subtle trap of appearing devout by withdrawing from him under cover of religious devotion, thinking that abstaining from your marriage will somehow please God. That is a snare that drives many a spouse into deeper sin. Instead, draw him back through the loveliness of a meek and quiet spirit, which is precious before God. Plead with the Lord without ceasing, as Abraham's servant did when he sought a spouse for Isaac: "O Lord, show the one You have appointed." Place your husband entirely into God's hands, and trust that He who is the true Bridegroom of the Church can turn this bitterness into lasting sweetness. Nothing is more beautiful than a marriage restored by grace.

Jesus looked upon the leper with compassion and said, I am willing; be cleansed. That same willingness has not dimmed. The disease of sin and bitterness may seem as incurable as leprosy, slowly eating away at a heart, but the Lord is able to touch what others dare not approach. He is not boxed in by human custom or the hardness of a situation. I am joining you in prayer that your husband’s heart be cleansed from the bitterness, unforgiveness, and hate that have driven him to the courthouse. Jesus is more than able to turn him back to God and home to you.

When the man with the withered hand stood before the Lord, the question was simple: Is it lawful to do good or to do evil, to heal or to kill? The religious minds around Jesus watched to accuse, but He healed because His nature is to restore. He looked with anger at the hardness of heart that opposed His work. Pray with boldness that the hardness in your husband’s heart be broken, and that he will stretch forth his hand, so to speak, to cancel the divorce and walk in obedience. True conversion always shows itself in repentance and making things right, just as the tax collector restored what he had taken. We are asking the Lord to produce that kind of genuine change.

Hold fast to this truth: Jesus kept company with sinners only to save them. He touched the leper only to heal. There is no wound in your marriage that He cannot reach. At the same time, bring your desire before Him and then surrender it, saying, Not what I will, but what You will. We do not know the timing or all the ways He will work, but we know He is both willing and able to restore what has been broken. I am praying with you for that restoration, for the cancellation of those divorce plans, and for a home filled again with the unity that only He can give.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for the restoration of your marriage. It has been our heartfelt honor to lift up your husband before the Lord, asking Him to draw him back to His own heart and to the covenant he made with you. We have prayed fervently that God would soften his heart, remove every trace of bitterness, unforgiveness, and hatred, and replace it with the love and grace that only Christ can provide.

We have asked the Lord to intervene in the legal matters your husband has set in motion, believing that God is able to turn his steps away from divorce and back toward reconciliation. We continue to pray that he would cancel the divorce proceedings, denounce any wicked plans, and return home to you, as the Lord leads him. The power of prayer is mighty, and we trust that God is at work even when we cannot see it.

If the Lord has already moved in this situation and your prayers have been answered, we would be overjoyed to hear a praise report from you. Please share how God has worked so that we may rejoice with you. If, however, the answer has not yet come, do not lose heart. We encourage you to post this request again so that we may continue to stand in agreement with you. The Lord hears the cries of His children, and His timing is perfect.

May God bless you abundantly as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. May He strengthen your faith, fill you with peace, and surround you with His love as you wait on Him. We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
