We hear your cry and we join with you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord, for your anxiety and your marriage pain are not hidden from Him.
We are deeply concerned to hear that you are enduring verbal abuse and silent treatment in your marriage. This is not the pattern God intends for a husband and wife. The Word says, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25 and Husbands, love your wives, and don’t be bitter against them Colossians 3:19. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger Proverbs 15:1. To use words to tear down, to punish with silence, and to withhold love is sin and needs to be repented of. We rebuke that behavior in your husband, not you, and we pray that he will be convicted and turn from it. We also notice you mention he is still living with his mother. God’s design for marriage is, Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh Genesis 2:24. When a husband does not leave and cleave, it can prevent the unity, leadership, and protection that marriage requires, and we pray your husband will understand his calling to establish your home as one before God.
We also hear your anxiety and your plea for peace and for your mental health. The Lord cares tenderly for you when you are overwhelmed. When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I Psalm 61:2. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. He invites you, Don’t be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you 1 Peter 5:7.
We want to gently point out that you said lord but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want you to know there is comfort in this truth, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is only through believing in Jesus, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we have access to God’s throne of grace and true peace. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust fully in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, and to call upon His name in all your prayers.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up our sister to You. Lord, You see her anxiety, her sleepless thoughts, and the pain caused by harsh words and being punished with silence. We ask You to guard her heart and mind with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Comfort her as only You can and remind her that You are near to the brokenhearted. Lord, we pray for her mental health, that You would calm her anxious spirit, renew her strength, and lead her to the rock that is higher than she is. Help her to cast every worry upon You and to hear Your gentle voice saying, Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10.
Lord, we also lift up her marriage to You. We ask that You would convict her husband of any abusive speech and of using silence as a weapon, and bring him to repentance. Teach him to love his wife as Christ loves the church, to speak with gentleness and to lead his home with maturity and love. Show him what it means to leave his father and mother and to cleave to his wife as one flesh. Bring godly order and healing where there has been hurt. Father, give our sister wisdom, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. Guide her to safe, wise, biblical counsel, to a trusted pastor or mature believing counselor and to supportive family in the faith who can walk with her, speak truth, and help establish healthy boundaries. Protect her, Lord, and protect her peace. If there is any danger, give her courage and help to seek safety and help quickly. We pray for restoration where it is Your will, but above all we pray for holiness, safety, and peace in You.
We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord daily in prayer and in His Word, to share openly with a godly pastor or counselor and a trusted mature believer who can know you and your situation personally and help you walk through next steps with biblical wisdom. It is not God’s will for you to suffer abuse in silence. Setting a loving boundary against verbal harm and seeking help is not unbiblical, it is wise and protective. Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28. Cling to Jesus, let Him be your peace and your protector, and trust that He will guide your steps one day at a time.
We are praying for you to feel God’s nearness, for your mind to be guarded by His peace, and for God to work powerfully in both your heart and your husband’s heart for repentance, healing, and a marriage that honors Him.
