We join you in this beautiful and biblical cry to be made as little children again before our Father, and we say amen to your desire for pure and simple devotion to Christ.
We love how you have anchored this prayer in the Word, for this is exactly what God calls us to. Jesus said in Matt 18:3, Truly I tell you, unless you turn, and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. And again in Mark 10:15, Whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom as a little child, he will in no way enter into it. This is humility, trust, and dependence, not childishness but childlikeness. David describes this rest so tenderly in Psalm 131:2, Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. And Peter exhorts us in 1 Peter 2:2, as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that with it you may grow. That longing is a gift from God, and we pray with you that He would restore that sincere craving. We also hear your heart in 2 Cor 11:3, where Paul says, I am afraid that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. We need that simplicity guarded every day.
We also join you in praying for light and understanding, for Psalm 119:130 says, The entrance of your words gives light, it gives understanding to the simple. And we agree for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation spoken of in Eph 1:17-18, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. We ask with you that He would open our minds as in Luke 24:45, that we might understand the Scriptures, and give us grace to be diligent as in 2 Tim 2:15 to present ourselves approved to God, and to pray as in 1 Tim 2:1-4 for all people.
So we pray together now in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father, for as John 14:6 says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me, and as Acts 4:12 declares there is salvation in no other.
Heavenly Father, we humble ourselves before You as little children and ask You to make Your Word desirable to us again as in the hour we first believed. Restore to us the first love we had at the beginning as You call us to in Rev 2:5, to remember from where we have fallen and to return. Grant us relaxed, quiet hearts drinking in the sincere milk of Your Word. Unfold Your Word to us and give us light. Lord Jesus, reveal the Father to us as in Matt 11:27, and grant us childlike trust, worship, adoration and prayer. Freely give us the Kingdom as You have promised in Luke 12:32, Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the Kingdom. Help us to please You by faith, for Heb 11:6 says without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.
Holy Spirit, flood our hearts with light to know You, to know the hope of our calling and the riches of Christ both now and forever. Grant us clarity and order, for You are not a God of confusion, as in 1 Cor 14:33, but of peace, and give us happy grace for daily chores and wisdom for pressing needs as in Titus 3:14, and sweet fellowship with You and with one another as fellow workers in 1 Cor 3:9 and as in 1 John 1:3 that our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ. Restore to us the joy of Your salvation as in Psalm 51:12, Restore to me the joy of your salvation, renew a right spirit within us, that sinners might be converted as in Psalm 51:13.
And Father, we ask for Your protection, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil as in Matt 6:13, keep us from being stumbling blocks as in Rom 14:13 and 1 Cor 8:9 and 1 Cor 10:32, keep us from sin and deception, and guard us from evil people and impostors who deceive and are deceived as in 2 Tim 3:13, and keep us from the evil one as Jesus prayed in John 17:15. Keep us in the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ all our days. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
