We join you in this beautiful and biblical cry to become as little children again before our Father, and we pray together with you for that pure and simple devotion to Christ to be restored and increased.
We love how you have desired the sincere milk of the Word, for as it is written, as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that with it you may grow, 1 Peter 2:2. And we agree that the unfolding of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple, Psalm 119:130. This is the heart of a childlike faith that our Lord Jesus calls us to, for He said, Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, Matthew 18:3, and Whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom as a little child, he will in no way enter into it, Mark 10:15.
We hear your longing to return to that first love, as you first believed, and we pray that the Lord will restore that relaxed, trusting rest described by the psalmist, Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me, Psalm 131:2. We also join you in asking that the simplicity and purity that is toward Christ would be guarded in us, as Paul warned, but I am afraid that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ, 2 Corinthians 11:3.
We pray together now.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace together. Make Your Word desirable to us again. Rekindle in us that hunger we had at the hour we first believed. Open our minds that we may understand the Scriptures, Luke 24:45, and flood our hearts with light, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of our hearts enlightened, that we may know what is the hope of his calling, Ephesians 1:17-18. Grant us to be diligent to present ourselves approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly handling the Word of Truth, 2 Timothy 2:15.
Lord Jesus, reveal the Father to us, for no one knows the Father except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him, Matthew 11:27. Grant us freely to be as little children in faith, in trust, in worship and in prayer, and give us the Kingdom freely, for it is Your good pleasure to give us the Kingdom, Luke 12:32. Restore to us the joy of Your salvation, Psalm 51:12, that our renewed repentance and joy might lead to the conversion of sinners, and that our fellowship with You and with one another would be sweet, that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us, 1 John 1:3.
Holy Spirit, bring Your clarity and order, for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace, 1 Corinthians 14:33, so that we may have grace for daily chores and wisdom for pressing needs and to maintain good works to meet necessary needs, Titus 3:14. Keep us from all stumbling blocks, and let us not put a stumbling block in a brother’s way, Romans 14:13, and keep us from sin and deception. We ask that You keep us from the evil one, John 17:15, and deliver us from evil and lead us not into temptation, Matthew 6:13. We thank You that without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to you, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him, Hebrews 11:6, and we are seeking You now with childlike hearts.
We thank You, Father, for hearing this prayer in the mighty and only name by which we are saved and by which we have access to You, the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
