Heavenly Father, make the Bible desirable, 1 Peter 2:2, as it was the hour we first believed, Rev 2:5, relaxed and drinking in the "sincere milk of the Word, Ps 131:2, for the unfolding of Your Words gives light & understanding to the simple, Ps 119:130. Jesus, grant us freely to be "like children again," Matt 18:3, Mark 10:15, Matt 18:17, with the faith of a child, and grant us increase in devotional love of Your Father and Our Father by revealing Him to us, Matt 11:27, child-like trust, worship, adoration and prayer, Rev 2:5. Give us grant us the Kingdom freely, Dan 7:27, Luke 12:32 -- Faith pleases You and You reward diligent seeking, Heb 11:6...

We join you in this beautiful and deeply biblical cry to return to the simplicity and sweetness of first love with our Lord, and we pray with you for that childlike heart again.

Your desire is exactly what the Spirit calls us to, to be stilled and quieted before our Father like a child with its mother. As it is written Psalm 131:2 Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. And we agree with you for that hunger for the Word, for it is written 1 Peter 2:2 as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that with it you may grow, and Psalm 119:130 The entrance of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.

We love that you have asked to become like little children again, for Jesus Himself said Matthew 18:3 Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn, and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. This is not a call to be childish, but to be childlike in trust, humility, dependence, and pure devotion. We hear your heart against the very thing Paul warned of when he said 2 Corinthians 11:3 But I am afraid that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. The enemy always wants to complicate, distract, and draw us away from that simple, pure devotion, and your prayer is a powerful turning back to Jesus.

We also hear your prayer to remember the hour you first believed, which aligns with the Lord's call to the church in Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works. That first joy of forgiveness, that eagerness for His Word, that happy grace for daily chores and that simple worship can be restored, for He is gracious to restore the joy of salvation as David prayed in Psalm 51:12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Renew a right spirit within me.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace together and we ask You to make us as nursing and weaned children again in Your arms. Quiet our striving souls and still our anxious thoughts, and give us again a sincere craving for the pure milk of Your Word that we may grow up into Christ in all things. Unfold Your Word to us and give us light, for Your Word gives understanding to the simple. Lord Jesus, grant us freely to become like little children before You, with simple faith and simple trust, and reveal the Father to us as You have promised Matthew 11:27 No one knows the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him. Pour out upon us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation that the eyes of our hearts may be enlightened to know You, the hope of Your calling and the riches of Your inheritance as You promised in Ephesians 1:17-18 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened. We ask You to open our minds to understand the Scriptures as You did in Luke 24:45, and to grant us diligence to present ourselves approved as in 2 Timothy 2:15, and to keep us in simple and pure devotion to Christ, in fellowship with You and with one another as in 1 John 1:3. Father, we ask You to protect us from every stumbling block and from sin and deception and from the evil one as Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:13 Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, and as You prayed in John 17:15 that you would keep them from the evil one. Grant us clarity and order for You are not a God of confusion but of peace as in 1 Corinthians 14:33, and establish our work and give us wisdom for every pressing need. We thank You that without faith it is impossible to please You but You reward those who diligently seek You according to Hebrews 11:6, and it is Your good pleasure to give us the Kingdom according to Luke 12:32. Restore to us the joy of our first forgiveness and let it overflow into the happy conversion of sinners around us. We ask all of this in the precious and only name by which we are saved and by which we have access to Your throne, the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to linger in the Word not as a duty but as a child resting on its mother's breast, without hurry. Come to it daily, even briefly, asking the Holy Spirit to give you one verse to carry through the day. Guard that simplicity by turning quickly from anything that complicates your devotion, whether it is pride, endless debate, or worldly distraction, for as Romans 14:13 warns we should not put a stumbling block in a brother's way. Keep short accounts with the Lord through fresh repentance, and He will keep your joy fresh. We rejoice that you have prayed so fully in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved as it is written in Acts 4:12, and it is through Him we are brought near to the Father.

We hear the deep longing in your prayer to be close again like a small child at rest, hungry for what is simple and pure and wanting to love Jesus with an undivided heart. That desire itself matters to the Lord, and we thank you for sharing it so honestly.

We know how discouraging it can be when the Bible does not feel desirable or when devotion feels complicated. One perspective that has steadied many of us is to see this less as trying harder in a moment and more as gentle training over time. Small, regular moments with the Lord tend to shape us slowly, even when we do not feel much right away, and they keep us from carrying guilt for not doing everything at once.

If it helps, you might choose just one small, sustainable rhythm for the next week or two. For example, set aside ten unhurried minutes most mornings to slowly read a short psalm aloud and talk to the Father about what you notice, with no pressure to get through a certain amount. Doing it alongside one trusted friend or a small group can also make it easier to stay consistent and to pray for one another.

We are with you in this and are grateful for your hunger for Him.

Father, draw him close to You as a child close to a parent, make Your word welcome and clear to his heart again, and give him quiet trust, light for each day, and protection from discouragement and evil. We ask for simple joy in belonging to You today. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a gracious and holy desire you have poured out before the Lord, to be made again as a nursing child, weaned and quieted upon its mother's breast, desiring the sincere milk of the Word that ye may grow thereby. This is the very posture to which our Lord calls us when He says, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. And it is the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ which the apostle feared lest we should lose, and which you do well to seek again.

God Himself remembers the kindness of your youth, the love of your espousals. That first faith, though it was but the feeble tottering of a babe in grace, was very lovely in His sight. When we live near to Christ and are in our first love, a little of the Word is sweet indeed, for the unfolding of His words gives light and understanding to the simple. But when we decline from that first love, it is often because we have neglected communion with Christ, or forgotten how much we owe Him who loved us and gave Himself for us. To return is to go back to first principles, to the great foundation stone, the cross of Christ, and to say again with the apostle, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me. There is Christ first, me last, nothing between but love.

Faith always produces love, for faith which works by love walks to the field with love at her side. The two divine graces are inseparable. When faith beholds the beauty of Christ, love must follow. And love in its turn reacts upon faith and perfects it. He who believes that he has been forgiven by the merit of the Redeemer's death loves Christ, and the love of Christ constrains us to all sorts of self denials and keeps us from that which would grieve His Spirit. This is how faith leads on to a holy life.

Let us pray together for this restoration.

Heavenly Father, we thank Thee that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, Thy Son who loved us and gave Himself for us. Restore unto us the joy of Thy salvation. Make us again as little children, humble, trusting, and teachable, that we may receive the kingdom as a child receives a gift. Give us again a sincere hunger for the pure milk of Thy Word, that by it we may grow in grace and in the knowledge of Christ. Grant us, by Thy Holy Spirit of wisdom and revelation, flood our hearts with light to know Thee, the hope of Thy calling, and the riches of Thy grace in Christ. Open our understandings that we might understand the Scriptures, and make us diligent in study, fervent in intercession, and orderly in all things to Thy glory.

Keep us in simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. Let our faith be faith in a Person, not in a notion, even Jesus who lives to make intercession for transgressors. Let that faith work by love, purging us from all that is petty and selfish and impure, and constraining us to serve Thee with joy, whether in daily chores or in pressing needs, in fellowship with Thee and with Thy people, and in witness to the lost.

And Father, as Thou hast taught us to pray, deliver us from temptation and from evil, from every stumbling block and snare, from sin and from the deceits of evil men and impostors, and from the evil one himself. Keep our feet from falling, that we may walk before Thee in holiness and in the happy grace of a childlike trust, worship and prayer, until Thou bringest us into Thine eternal kingdom. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our life, our love, and our all. Amen.
