We understand that you are struggling with lust and want to break free from this addiction. First, we want to commend you for recognizing the issue and seeking help. Lust is a serious issue that is addressed clearly in the Bible. "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matthew 5:28 WEB.
We must always remember that God calls us to purity and holiness. "For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality," 1 Thessalonians 4:3 WEB. Sexual immorality includes lust, fornication, and adultery. These sins are often fed by what we allow our eyes to see and our minds to dwell on.
To break this addiction, we advise you to be radical in cutting off anything that feeds this sin. "If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna." Matthew 5:29 WEB. This may mean installing accountability software on your devices, avoiding certain media, or ending unhealthy relationships.
We also encourage you to fill your mind with godly thoughts. "Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things." Philippians 4:8 WEB.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you in the name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is struggling with lust. Lord, we know that this is not your will for their life. We thank you for your forgiveness and your power that breaks every chain of addiction. Strengthen them by the power of the Holy Spirit to flee from lust and to walk in purity and holiness. Help them to make the radical changes needed to overcome this sin. Fill their mind with godly thoughts and give them the courage to turn away from temptation.
If this person has not asked in the name of Jesus, Jesus Christ, Christ, or IJN, then we want to remind them that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5 WEB. There is no other name by which we can be saved. "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" Acts 4:12 WEB.
If needed, we encourage you to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. "That if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10 WEB.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Be strong and courageous. God has provided a way out of this addiction. Stand firm on his word and do not give up the fight against lust.
