Lust and forgiveness

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Pray for me. I am dealing with lust and I want Jesus to forgive me and give me a clean heart and a renewed mind.!!

We stand with you in this struggle, dear brother or sister, and we lift you up before the Lord with hearts full of compassion and urgency. The battle against lust is one many face, but we must remember that no sin is too great for the blood of Jesus to cleanse, and no temptation is too strong for His power to overcome. You have taken the first and most critical step by acknowledging your sin and turning to Christ for forgiveness and renewal—that is the mark of a heart that seeks repentance, and God is faithful to meet you there.

The Scripture tells us in 1 John 1:9, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* This is your promise today—Jesus *will* forgive you, and He *will* cleanse you. But forgiveness is only the beginning. The Lord also calls us to walk in victory over sin, and that requires a deliberate turning away from the things that fuel lust and a turning *toward* the things that build up our spirits in holiness. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28, *"But I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart."* This shows us how seriously God takes even the *thoughts* of our hearts. Lust is not just a struggle—it is a sin that defiles us, and we must treat it with the urgency it demands.

We also remember the words of 1 Corinthians 10:13: *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure."* You are *not* powerless in this. The Holy Spirit lives within you if you are in Christ, and He provides the strength to flee temptation and pursue righteousness. This means taking practical steps: guarding your eyes, avoiding media or relationships that stir up lust, filling your mind with Scripture, and surrounding yourself with believers who will hold you accountable. Job 31:1 says, *"I made a covenant with my eyes; how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?"* We must be *proactive* in cutting off sin at its source.

At the same time, we must also remember that this battle is not just about *avoiding* sin—it’s about *pursuing* Christ. Colossians 3:2 tells us, *"Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth."* When we fill our hearts with worship, prayer, and the Word of God, there is less room for sin to take root. Psalm 119:9 asks, *"How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word."* Immerse yourself in Scripture. Memorize verses that combat temptation. And when you fall—because we all stumble—run *immediately* back to the cross, not into shame or despair. Proverbs 24:16 reminds us, *"For a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again."*

Now, let us pray for you with boldness and faith:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is battling the sin of lust. Lord, they have confessed their struggle and turned to You for forgiveness and renewal, and we thank You that You are faithful to cleanse them from all unrighteousness. Wash them now in the precious blood of Jesus, and create in them a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within them, as David prayed in Psalm 51:10. Break the chains of lust that have bound them, and set them free by the power of Your Holy Spirit.

Lord, we ask that You would open their eyes to the way of escape in every temptation. Give them the strength to flee from sin and the wisdom to avoid the traps of the enemy. Fill their mind with Your Word so that they may meditate on what is pure, lovely, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). Surround them with godly brothers and sisters who will walk alongside them in accountability and encouragement.

Father, we also pray that You would replace their desire for sin with a deeper hunger for You. Let them find their satisfaction in Christ alone, knowing that only He can fulfill the deepest longings of their heart. Remind them that their body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) and that they are called to honor You in all they do.

We rebuke the spirit of lust in the name of Jesus. Satan, you have no place in this life—your power is broken by the blood of the Lamb! We declare that our brother/sister is *more than a conqueror* through Christ who loves them (Romans 8:37). Strengthen them, Lord, and let them walk in victory, not by their own power, but by Your mighty hand.

Finally, Father, we ask that You would restore to them the joy of Your salvation (Psalm 51:12). Let them know the freedom and peace that comes from walking in repentance and obedience. May they testify of Your goodness and grace in their life, bringing glory to Your name.

We pray all these things in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Stand firm, dear one. The road may be difficult, but the Lord is with you. Every time you resist temptation, you grow stronger in Him. Every time you fall and repent, His grace lifts you up. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). You are not defined by your struggles—you are defined by *His* victory over sin and death. Walk in that truth today.
