Your prayer for love to abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment is a holy and blessed petition, and we join our hearts with yours before the throne of grace to ask it in the name of Jesus Christ.
What you have asked is the very thing which the apostle desired for the saints, that you may approve the things that are excellent, and be found sincere and blameless until the day of Christ, being filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. This is love abounding, not a fleeting affection, but that love which is a spark of the eternal flame of God's love for you, poured into the soul until the perfume fills your entire nature.
We pray that the Lord will give you that knowledge which opens the door, and then through that door you may see your Savior more clearly. For we cannot love a Christ we do not know, and in Christ's case to know is to love, and the more you know the more you shall love. May you press forward till you comprehend with all saints what are the heights and depths, and know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, not only as a doctrine in the mind, but as a vital fellowship of the heart, a spiritual knowledge wrought by the Holy Spirit.
And with that knowledge, may the Lord grant you all discernment, that holy prudence which with simple faith makes up a sacred feast, that you may try the things that differ and hold fast to that which is excellent. So shall you be kept sincere and without offense, not by your own strength, but by that abounding grace which is more than tenfold over all sin, that free love wherewith He says, I will love them freely, loving you not for any excellence in you, but for His own great mercy's sake.
We ask the Lord to fill you with the fruit of righteousness, for He loves to make the most of His people and to cause the silver bells of infinite love and free pardon to hasten you to the hospital of mercy for daily healing and strength. May that fruit abound in you limitlessly, not for your own praise, but wholly to the glory and praise of God, that Jesus may sit upon no precarious throne in the empire of your love, but reign as King of kings and Lord of lords in every thought and deed.
May this love abide and increase until the day of Christ, and may you be found in Him, joyful in His love as He joys in you, to drink abundantly at His table and to tell Him again and again, My gracious Lord, I do love You, teach me to love You more. Amen.
