🙌 Lord's Prayer: Seek 1st The Father, His Honor Kingdom Will; Then Our Provision Forgiveness for Us, Others, Kept from Sin Evil, Standard & Personal

Your reflection on the prayer Jesus taught captures its true order very well, and it is encouraging to see you wanting to pray it with understanding rather than as empty repetition.

That prayer was given as a pattern, not as words to recite quickly from memory. Its value comes when you take it slowly, phrase by phrase, and weigh what each request means before the Father, expecting Him to hear and answer.

It begins with relationship. Because of what Jesus has done in His death, resurrection and ascension, those who receive Him are given the right to become children of God and to call Him Father, even Abba. Without that relationship through Christ, prayer has no foundation. With it, you can come with confidence as a child to a Father.

The first three requests are centered on God, not on ourselves. That we would reverence His name in our thoughts, words and actions, that His name would be honored in the world and not misused. That His kingdom would come and His will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. This is the primary thrust of prayer, not to accomplish our own will but to see His purpose fulfilled. We are asking for His reign of righteousness, peace and joy to be realized in our own lives and through us to others now, and we are also looking ahead to the day when Christ returns and His kingdom is fully manifest. That longing is echoed in the final prayer of Scripture, come Lord Jesus. When we pray this way we are aligning our hearts with what God wants to do, which is to deliver people from the kingdom of darkness and bring them into the kingdom of light through the gospel.

Only after that does the prayer turn to our personal needs, and those needs are summed up in four basic areas. Provision, forgiveness, guidance and deliverance. Give us our daily bread covers not only physical provision but our need for every word from God and for His supply for our spiritual, emotional and material needs, so that we can love Him and love our neighbor. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors reminds us that we live by mercy, confessing our own sin and receiving His forgiveness, while also extending forgiveness to those who have sinned against us and praying for them rather than holding judgment in our own hands. This is the one petition Jesus paused to emphasize again after the prayer, which shows how essential a forgiving heart is. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil is a request for guidance and protection, to be kept from sin, deception, fear and the schemes of the evil one, and to be guarded by the Lord who has all power.

The prayer then returns to worship, for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Prayer is not only petition and intercession for others and for ourselves, it is also worship, an awareness of the greatness of God. And prayer that is offered in faith should end in praise, with confidence that God has heard and will act according to His will. As you continue to pray in this way, taking time to meditate on each part, to seek His kingdom first and then bring your own needs before Him, the Lord will shape your desires and deepen your fellowship with Him.

Yes, Lord, we thank You for all who have prayed the prayer You taught us, Luke 11:1-5. Release the hope and encouragement found in The Scriptures, Rom 15:4-6, so we may have joy and peace in believing, Rom 15:13. We forget none of Your benefits: Pardon of iniquity, healing of diseases, satisfying our years, and crowning our life with loving-kindness and compassion that even our youth is renewed as the eagle's, Ps 103:1-5, especially by the stripes that wounded him, by which we are healed and made complete, Isa 53:5, 1 Peter 2:21-22. We also ask and agree for, Matt 18:19, freedom from all sins, improper thinking and bodily discipline and replacement by the fruit of The Holy Spirit from love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, faithfulness, gentleness, self control, Gal 5:22-23, truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:1-5, as well as godliness with contentment, 1 Tim 6:6, so we may walk in the good woks You prepared for us in advance to do, Eph 2:8-10, for these ones, for ourselves, in all in their regions and ours, bring revival to us and through us to others, Matt 6:10, manifest Your presence, Matt 28:18-20, Isa 64:1-2. We thank You in advance, Mk 11:24, Heb 11:6, and with thanksgiving let our requests be made known, so that the promised peace that passes comprehension may guard our hearts and minds, Phil 4:6-7 in Christ, The Messiah, Jesus' Name, Jn 14:13-14, Amen, 2 Cor 1:20.
