Lord I ask complete restoration in relationship

Thank you for sharing the burden you carry for these two people you care about so deeply. It is painful to watch people you love experience separation and silence, and your compassion for them is evident. Your desire to pray is right and good, and God hears the prayers offered for others in love.

The most important truth to hold onto in any painful human situation is that our relationship with God is the center upon which every other relationship turns. When that vertical relationship with Him is made right through faith in Jesus Christ, it brings order and health to all our other relationships. If that foundation is not right, no human bond, no matter how long or how sincere it feels, can be truly whole. Scripture teaches that we did not first reach for God, He first reached for us, and He invites us into a close, loving relationship as a Father, not a cold or ritual connection. He wants each person to know Him personally, to love Him freely, and to experience His love in return.

That freedom is essential to understand. God created us with free will so that love and relationship could be real and voluntary, not forced like a machine that must obey. Because love must be chosen, even our relationship with God is a matter of the will. In the same way, no one can force two people to be reconciled. We can pray for softened hearts, but God will not override their wills. What we can pray is that each of them will first turn fully to the Lord, seek Him, and surrender their own pride and will to Him.

You mentioned ego, pride, anger and walls of silence. The Bible warns that pride is often where we are most vulnerable, and that bitterness, wrath, anger and harsh words grieve the Holy Spirit and damage relationships. There is a place for being angry at what is evil and wrong, but we are told to put away bitterness and malice, to not let anger settle into a lasting grudge, and to forgive as Christ has forgiven us. Healing between people begins when each person humbly deals with their own heart before God, confesses pride and anger, and chooses forgiveness and gentleness.

It is also important to understand what God calls a relationship to be. The Bible presents marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and it teaches that romantic love, sexual intimacy and living together belong within that covenant. A long and emotionally close history together, even with maturity and respect, does not in itself make a relationship right before God if it is outside of His design for marriage. Rather than asking God simply to restore a dating relationship as it was, the more faithful way to pray is to ask God to work in each life individually for His glory and their good.

So instead of praying that God would bless their togetherness at any cost, we can pray that God would draw each of them into a deeper, abiding relationship with Jesus, that they would experience His forgiveness and new life, and that the fruit of that abiding would be love, peace, patience and self control. If it is His will for them to be married in the future, that desire should be pursued in purity, with wise counsel, with patience, and with a commitment to honor God first. If it is not His will for them to be together, we can pray that He would give them grace to accept His leading, to heal fully, and to walk in holiness going forward.

With that in mind, this is how we can pray: Father, we bring these two individuals before You in the name of Jesus, who alone is the way to be reconciled to You. We ask that You would give each of them a fresh hunger for You, that they would know Your love and choose to love You in return. Heal their hearts where there has been hurt, convict them where there has been pride or anger, and teach them to put away bitterness and to forgive as You have forgiven. Give them wisdom to seek You above all else, to honor You with their bodies and their choices, and to desire marriage only as You define it. Let Your perfect will be done in each of their lives, and let whatever future they have be built on abiding in Christ. Bring them and the one who loves them comfort and trust as they rest in Your goodness and Your timing. Amen.

Continue to entrust them to the Lord, encourage each of them to seek Him and to seek godly counsel, and rest in knowing that as they each abide in Christ, He will bring forth what is good and right in His time.
