Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for bringing this request and anchoring it in the words of Jesus from Luke 9:24. There is a beautiful, counterintuitive promise there: the only way any of us ever truly live is by letting go of the life we clutch so tightly and surrendering it into His hands. Your landlord, like every person, stands at that crossroads. He needs more than a better situation or a changed outlook; he needs life itself, the kind that is only found in the Son.
What you are really asking is that this man would stop chasing the hollow things this world offers and receive the gift God holds out. Scripture makes it plain: God has given us eternal life, and that life is in Jesus Christ. Whoever has the Son has life. There is no other source. Notice the certainty of that word given. It is not earned. No amount of good deeds or religious effort can produce it. Salvation is by grace through faith, and even the faith to believe is a gift, so that no one can boast. Your prayers for mercy and grace are exactly right. You are asking God to do what only He can do, to draw this landlord to the cross where Jesus took our sin and gave us His righteousness in return.
You declared that Jesus reigns over darkness and that His light expels it. That is a truth worth holding firmly. When His life enters a heart, darkness does not retreat by our own strength; it is driven out by a stronger force. The old, self-centered existence what the Bible calls the life of the flesh is put to death with Christ. And in its place, a new creation rises. The person who was once alienated and dead in sin becomes a child of God, indwelt by the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the grave. That is the transformation you are praying toward, and it remains the only hope for anyone.
So continue to ask boldly that this landlord would lose his life in order to save it, that he would stop living for what perishes and start living for the One who loved him and gave Himself for him. When a life is hidden in Christ, the law of the Spirit of life sets us free from the law of sin and death. Everything changes.
Let this be your confidence as you pray: the world has nothing that comes close to the hope of eternal life. Not one of its promises can compare. And the God who cannot lie has made that life available through His Son. We join you now in asking for that very thing.
Father, we lift up this landlord to You. You know his heart, his struggles, and his need. We ask that Your light would pierce any darkness holding him, and that the life of Jesus would become his only treasure. Draw him away from a life centered on himself, and grant him the faith to lose everything for Christ, so that he might truly live. Thank You that no one can withstand Your mighty power. We rest in Your love and faithfulness. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
